The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is designing a “Citizen Action Against Corruption” (CAC) as a new initiative to battle corrupt practices in public places.

In an interview with newsmen in Abuja at the weekend, chairman of ICPC, Ekpo Nta said the CAC would empower citizens to film with their phones and upload on YouTube, corrupt public and private citizens who indulge in open corruption.

Nta said he had observed that corrupt people did not want noise, but when exposed they hated being opened to public disgrace.

Through this he explained, ”You buy your freedom when you raise your voice. Through this action some police officers have been dismissed.”

Nta said the Memorandum Of Understanding ( MOU) signed between ICPC and Ministry Of Aviation had eliminated open bribery at the nation’s international airports.

”In terms of direct open corruption on the floor, which used to happen with impunity, has clearly stopped. That for me, is a major change. The only place you probably will see this bribery is in the case of touts outside the airports. But the minister has given directives for the airport security to clear them,” he declared.

Nta disclosed that training for those in the aviation sector would start very soon at the ICPC academy at Keffi in Nassarawa state, adding that he was happy when the KPMG saw the news of combating corruption at the nation’s international airports, sent in a proposal for collaboration.

“We didn’t invite them. They came to us. That means people are ready from different places to get involved in the fight against corruption. We will jolly work with them too” he declared.
