The Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Hajiya Maryam Ciroma, has resigned her appointment without stating any reason.

A statement issued by the organisation, at its headquarters in Lokoja, stated that her resignation took effect from May 28 but did not give further details.

The statement, which was signed by Tayo Fadile, the General Manager, NIWA Corporate Affairs, noted that her letter of resignation was addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

According to the statement, Ciroma, a former Minister of Women Affairs, thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for giving her the opportunity to serve in that capacity.

Ciroma, also a former National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said in the letter that her decision to resign was “honourable and the right thing to do.”

It would be recalled that Ciroma assumed duty as the Managing Director of NIWA on May 13, 2013.
