With barely two weeks to the end of the incumbent administration, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday, ratified President Goodluck Jonathan’s anticipatory approvals for four new projects in the Niger Delta region at the sum of N30.983 billion.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Steve Oru, disclosed this to State House correspondents after the council meeting which was presided over by Jonathan.

The projects were the construction of the Zarama-Okodia Iseme Road in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State awarded to Messrs Eneko Nigeria Limited in the sum of N5. 923 billion with a completion period of 18 months and the Agadagba-Akotoko-Iyasa-Ovia Road and Bridge in Irele Local Government of Ondo State in favour of CGC Nigeria Limited in the sum of N15.628 billion.

Others were the construction of the Amasoma-Egbedi Road in Kolokuma Okpokuma Local Government of Bayelsa State awarded to Messrs Dantu Construction Nigeria Limited in the sum of N2.767 billion with a completion period of 18 months and the Ofagbe-Udeze-Ozoro Road in Isoko-North and Isoko South Local Government Areas of Delta State.

The minister explained that Jonathan had, late last year, given anticipatory approvals to the projects which were to be executed in areas within his (president’s) geo-political zone.

Asked the completion stages of the numerous East-West Road projects on which billions of naira had been spent within the last four years, the minister said: “The East-West Road has four sections. Most of the sections have virtually been completed. Section One is 99 percent completed.

“Section two, we have a bridge problem and about 90 percent is also completed… Everything put together, we can reasonably say that about 90 percent is completed. We may likely go on tour of the projects within the next 10 days”.
