Lagos Assembly gives quit notice to illegal occupants of Ejigbo hospital land

The Lagos State House of Assembly has issued a quit notice to occupants of a ground designated to Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Ilamoshe ward, Ejigbo, Lagos.

Describing their occupancy as illegal, the House ordered the residents to vacate within one month.

House Committee Chairman on Health, Segun Olulade, during a visit to the area, said that the encroachment by land grabbers and its allocation to the current occupants was unacceptable.

Olulade said that the land had been proposed for health facility and remains unchanged.

It is on record, according to the lawmaker that the trespassers had been warned verbally by the Ejigbo Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) and have been issued a seven days quit notice.

He, however, appealed to the LCDA to have the seven-day ultimatum be extended to one month after which the trespassers would face forceful ejection, if they fail to comply willingly.

It would be recalled that the Health Committee during a recent tour shut the Blood Bank at Gbagada General Hospital citing the unhygienic condition of the centre.

The lawmaker representing Epe constituency 2, Hon.Olusegun Olulade has given illegal occupants of a landed property earmarked for primary Health Center in Ejigbo Area of Lagos State to vacate the area within one month.

Olulade who is the chairman, House Committee on Health Services of the Lagos State House of Assembly, said he was preoccupied with ensuring that the health Sector is revamped in line with the strategies and innovations put in that sector by the state Governor, Akinwumi Ambode.

Olulade said that Governor Ambode is putting everything in place to move the health sector to the next level and this plan must not be sabotaged.

Meanwhile, Olulade has formally declared to be an Ambassador for HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign. He made this public declaration while inspecting some facilities at the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency.

Speaking with reporters after the committee’s oversight function, Olulade noted that four percent of the over 20 million Lagosians are infected with HIV/ AIDS, a figure he found alarming.

He therefore told the management of the agency of his readiness to go into partnership with the agency and other non governmental organisations to enlighten the masses on the prevalence of the disease.

Olulade used this medium to call on the Local Council Development Authorities in the state to participate actively in creating awareness.

He emphasized on working with his co legislators in the Assembly through creating platforms that will encourage people living with HIV/Aids to function optimally in the society without stigmatization.

The Acting Director of the Agency, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, who welcomed the team of Lagos State House of Assembly Health Committee and Ministry of Health’ s Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency, thanked the chairman for the pledge and his commitment towards pursuing a healthy lagos.

He further tasked the government not to relent in here efforts to curb the disease. Ogboye also appealed for more enlightenment programmes on stigmatisation.
