Lagos State Government says it would continue to appreciate and acknowledge the roles of labour unions in wealth creation, social harmony and economic progress as well as the contributions of retired top government functionaries towards the advancement and progress of the State.

The State Acting Head of Service, Folasade Adesoye disclosed this over the weekend at the presentation of utility vehicles to both the 16 Unions under the Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council and the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries (ALARHOSPS).

Adesoye noted that the presentation of the new utility vehicles was in fulfilment of the promises made to the Unions and Association by the State Governor as well as the realization of their noble roles particularly in ensuring industrial peace on one hand and enriching the process of governance.

The Acting Head of Service opined that the diverse experiences of members of such a forum like ALARHOSPS, all of whom had held senior Public Service positions before, would enrich the process of governance in itself, policy formulation/development, the Public Service itself and Service delivery.

She recalled that ALARHOSPS was inaugurated by the State Governor with a view to envisioning with the State Government the best ways and means of enhancing the quality of service delivery, improving Public Service Structures and the quality of lives of the people and their environment for the benefit of all.

The Acting Head of Service however urged members of ALARHOSPS to continue to focus on how it can help Government monitor and report on public opinions about Government’s policies and programmes.

“I have no doubts whatsoever that ALARHOSPS is indeed capable of achieving the purpose for which it was set up particularly since the contributions and accomplishments of the members have helped to position Lagos State Public Service as the best in Africa,” she averred.

Mrs. Adesoye pointed out that existence of industrial peace in the State has further helped to cement a peaceful government-labour cooperation and collaboration in the State stressing that workers should in return reciprocate government’s gesture by renewing their dedication and commitment to duty through improved service delivery to the citizenry.

Her words; “Let me assure you that the State Government will continue along this notable path of ensuring of continued industrial peace in the State. Therefore, to whom much is given, much is expected. Workers are therefore expected to reciprocate government’s gesture by renewing their dedication and commitment to duty through improved service delivery to the citizenry.”
