Liverpool’s 29-year wait to win the league title continues, despite their 2-0 win over Wolves at Anfield.

Manchester City retained the Premier League title with a 4-1 win at Brighton to finish on 98 points – one ahead of the Reds, who have the highest final points total of any runners-up in English top-flight history.

Many Liverpool players looked exhausted at the final whistle, but Jurgen Klopp’s team were given a rousing ovation despite the disappointing outcome to their bid for a 19th title.

Sadio Mane scored from close range in each half to finish the season with 22 goals, as he and team-mate Mohamed Salah finished level in the race for the Golden Boot as the league’s top scorers.

The victory over Wolves was Liverpool’s ninth consecutive win in the league – their only defeat of the campaign came when they lost 2-1 to City on 3 January.

Liverpool will have the chance to finish an impressive season with a trophy when the play Tottenham in the Champions League final in Madrid on 1 June.
