A mentally-challenged woman on Wednesday in Abeokuta gave birth to a set of twins around the popular Lafenwa market in the Ogun State capital.

According to an eye witness account, the woman was first noticed around 10 am trying to bring out one of the babies before passersby rushed to the nearby health centre at Enugada Primary Health centre where the health officials were led to the scene.

Sources told NewMailNG that by the time the officials of the health centre rushed to the scene, one of the babies was already delivered by the mad woman.

“At this point, when we rushed to the scene, we had to take the woman and the already delivered baby to our health centre where our nursing staff helped delivered the second baby around 11 am,” said an official of the health facility who pleaded not to be mentioned.

The source further hinted that the Chairman, Abeokuta North Local Government,  Agbaakin Taofeek Olabode also visited the health centre to see the mad woman and her set of twins being attended to and offered to assist in rehabilitating the woman.

Another source who also pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that efforts are being made to send the children to Stella Orphanage home while the woman upon discharge from the health centre will be transferred to the Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, in Abeokuta for proper rehabilitation.

The orphanage, it was learnt, was named after the late wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
