Ministerial list ready for presentation to senate

The much-awaited ministerial list promised by President Muhammad Buhari to be released in September is ready and is set to be presented to the Senate President Bukola Saraki when the upper legislative chamber resumes on Tuesday.

Already, credible sources told reporters at the side line of the United Nations, in New York that President Muhammadu Buhari handed the list over to his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, on Monday where he is attending the General Assembly, for onward transmission to the National Assembly.

Enang has already left New York for Abuja.

According to the source, the President directed the liaison officer to either handover the list to Saraki on Tuesday at the resumption of the plenary or on Wednesday depending on the mood of the upper legialative chamber.

It would be recalled that President Buhari had assured Nigerian’s of his determination to announce his cabinet before the end of September.

No one was however able to identify the names on the list in Enang’s possession, the source however disclosed that two more names that have been in contention, General Abdulrahman Dambazzau and Rotimi Amaechi are on the list.

Both of them are presently attending the UN meeting with the President.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, told reporters in New York on Monday that he would not be surprised if the list was ready, adding that it was within the timeline given by the President himself.

“I will not be surprised if the list is ready because it is within the timeline that the President gave. He said he will name his cabinet in September. Today (Monday) is September 28, so if it happens that it is ready, it is within the timeline,” Adesina said.

When asked to give an insight into the number of nominees on the list, the presidential spokesman simply said, “The constitution already gives you an idea of the number of people that can be on the cabinet because it stipulates that we must have at least one minister per state.”
