Mr. President, #BringBackOurGirls

Let me go straight to the point. Mr. President, millions of Nigerians are angry right now. We are not angry because of the culture of corruption your administration has left to fester uncontrollably. Nope. We are not angry because your administration seems to wallow in the cesspit of cluelessness.

And no sir, we are not miffed, at least not yet, by the fact that you have let persons like Abba Moro, Diezani Allison-Madueke and Nyesom Wike to stay on in their positions after their corrupt tendencies and asphyxiating incompetence (as the case may be) have been brought to the fore.

Mr. President, Nigerians are angry about the shoddy manner your government has been handling the rescuing of about 190 female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok. As of yet, Sir, there is no hope that the military under your command has achieved anything in this regard.

In fact, it is apparent that the girls are doing way more to escape from captivity more than what your government has done since they were kidnapped. Mr. President that, about 44 students escaped from the dreaded Boko Haram sects on their own suggests that your government has failed them. I sincerely hope you will not fail their colleagues still being held captive.

It is within your rights, Mr. President, as a citizen of this country to want to contest, again, in 2015. So, I will not impugn your decision to go to Kano for political campaign disguised in garbs of unity rally.

However, I believe it is only an unfeeling and reckless leader that will attend such function a day after over 70 persons were bombed out of existence and 234 girls kidnapped from their school by a terrorist group.

The argument by your foot soldiers that your going to Kano was to show that Boko Haram cannot stop the wheels of the government lacked merits and reason. Since when has political campaign by the Peoples’ Democratic Party become a state function? Who is the beneficiary of your junket to Kano: yourself and your party or Nigerians?

How exactly will your dance at Kano impact your constitutional duties? Don’t you think that the fact that Shekau mocked you in a video released by his sect few days after you went to Kano defeated your foot soldiers’ argument? May I remind you, Mr. President, that you swore an oath to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians? That includes the Chibok girls.

Mr. President, Nigerians are also angry about the double-standard of your government. The objective ones among us are wondering why you elected not to delay your visit to Olubadan and to Kano a day after the girls were kidnapped and some people killed at Abuja, only for you to postpone the Federal Executive Council meeting because the Vice President’s younger brother died in an auto crash.

Sir, action suggested that your government will only be sympathetic with members of your cabinet. You went to celebrate with Olubadan on his 100th birthday, but you chose not offer words of comfort to the parents of the young girls who were not even up to 20 years old.

Mr. President, would you remember that you waited more than a week before you could hold a security meeting to discuss the abduction of the girls? You gave the military an order to rescue the girls 10 days after they were abducted. Nigerians would like to know if there was any moral and/or legal justification for such a long wait.

Mr. President, Nigerians are tired of feeble and empty promises. They sound like bad broken records to us. We are tired of you saying ‘perpetrators of this dastardly act will be punished’. We want actions. Let’s see them being punished. Remember, we are not asking for too much; we only want your administration to be alive to its responsibilities to all Nigerians.

I believe the biggest campaign gift you can give to yourself and your party will be to ensure that the Chibok girls are rescued SAFE AND SOUND before it is too late. But for now, your numbers are not looking good. At least, from where I stand.

Again, Mr. President, #BringBackOurGirls. Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
@tonyeville01
