The Board of Directors of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has approved the appointment of Engr. Ernest Mupwaya as the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Company following the retirement of Neil Croucher after his three-year tenure.

Croucher, who has played a significant role in steering the AEDC successfully through the challenges of post privatization from 2013 to date, has had more than 37 years of extensive experience in all aspects of the electricity supply business, straddling all the three value chains of generation, transmission and distribution, as well as a stint in Regulatory affairs.

A statement issued by the AEDC on Sunday, said the appointment of Engr. Mupwaya, which takes effect from 1st August, 2016, is subject to approval by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The statement said further that the AEDC Board, at its sitting of 21st July, 2016, equally approved a new Management Structure for the Company with a Corporate Services Directorate created to supervise five different functions, including Human Resources, Procurement, Government and Regulatory Relations, Public Relations and Fleet & Facilities Management.

According to the statement, the new AEDC MD/CEO, Engr. Mupwaya, who until his new appointment was the Director of Commercial Services of the Company, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering as well as an MBA.

In the course of his career which spanned about 30 years in the Electricity Industry, Engr. Mupwaya has held several Senior Management Positions which include Managing Director, Director, Divisional Manager, Regional Manager, Project Manager, and Senior Engineer for the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO).

He is not only assuming his new post with broad experience in the electricity supply industry, he has also worked very closely with Croucher over the past three years in AEDC, thereby enhancing a smooth transition.

While congratulating him on his new appointment, the AEDC Board tasked Engr. Mupwaya to take advantage of the existing opportunities to build on the successes recorded by the Company under the outgoing MD/CEO.

Engr. Mupwaya, who is a member of several professional bodies and social organisations such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), is married with children.
