The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) has called on the Federal Government to assist the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by insurgency in FCT and other parts of the country.

The call became necessary following allegations of neglect of displaced persons in Kuje Area Council and other camps in FCT .

MMPN Chairman, Abdur-Rahman Balogun represented by his deputy, Hajia Medina Dauda-Nadabo made the appeal on Sunday in Abuja at 30 Estate in Kayache-Buzunkure Village, Kuje Abuja when the association visited the camp.

The number of individual families in the camp has risen from 91 to over 200 when the group visited on Sunday.

The Muslim Media group said it was informed that since the IDPs moved to Kuje, no government official has visited the place, hence MMPN decision to visit the camp to give some essential items and raise awareness on their plight.

“We appeal to the government and other Nigerians to come to their aid and give them succour. We know many of the IDPs in FCT and other places are being attended to, those here should likewise be attended to.

“As we can see here, they are many of them that needs our attention especially in this harmattan period, this is our own way of marking the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad” Nadabo said.

Responding, Chief of Buzubkure Village, Chief Musa Kaura said when the IDPs started to settle in their midst, they do not have the option to attend to them as fellow citizens in need of succour.

“Our people in this domain have been helpful, some of the inhabited flats in the estate have been given to them (IDPs) since we cannot afford seeing them sleep in the open.

“We appeal to the government to come to their aid here before they would be moved back to their homes,” Kaura said.

Coordinator of the camp, Gapani Yanga, said those in the camps have been visited by some Churches, individuals and other organisations and asked the government to come to their aid.

At the occasion, the Muslim Media group donated cash and some foodstuffs as well as household items to the displaced persons.
