Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo has described an alleged plan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket as insensitive and dangerous.

Obasanjo said this in a statement released on Sunday.

The former Nigerian leader said politicians should be sensitive to the yearnings of Nigerians while noting that this would engender confidence in the leadership of country and would also enhance peace, security and political stability.

Obasanjo also noted that fielding same religion candidates for a presidential ticket by any party would raise unhealthy sentiments against such party.

“The idea of proselytization in any form is a grave danger that must not be contemplated by any serious minded politician at this delicate situation in Nigeria, as this time is different from any other time.

“Therefore, disregarding the fact that there are fears that need to be allayed at this point will amount not only to insensitivity of the highest order but will also amount to very bad politics indeed,” Obasanjo said
