The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Adamawa South, Senator Jonathan Silas Zwingina, has urged party members to work hard to stop the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Major General Muhammadu Buhari from winning the March 28 poll.
Zwingina said that his position is motivated by the need to prevent Buhari from getting to power as he has promised to jail corrupt people.
Buhari has made the fight against corruption a cardinal issue of his electioneering and promised to ensure there is no sacred cow in his anti-graft campaign, if elected.
But Zwingina, at a meeting of PDP members in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, said with Buhari’s commitment to fight corruption and given the fact that no politician can withstand detailed investigation, politicians have a lot to fear, if Buhari wins.
“We have to stop Buhari and his plan to build more prisons to jail politicians. You know Buhari, he will send us to jail for between 200 and 300 years. It is the lucky ones among us that will get 50 years.
“As you know, there is no way you will hold office in Nigeria and be scot free if the authorities want to get you. “Buhari is determined to send people to jail and even APC governors are not comfortable with him and that’s why many of them are not following his campaign team.”
He urged PDP members to work hard for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, who he said is better than Buhari.
“Let me tell you that Jonathan is 1,000 times better than Buhari and that’s why people have resolved to vote for our candidate, President Jonathan,” he said.
Zwingina also urged the people to elect PDP governorship candidate in the state, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and all other candidates of the party in the state.
In his remarks, Ribadu called for unity in the PDP and promised to run an inclusive government if elected.
“If you vote me, I promise you that I will not betray you. I met just recently with Mr. President and he showed concern over the level of underdevelopment in Adamawa with the promise that Adamawa is among the states he will accord priority in terms of federal projects.
“In 2011 election, we gave the president 65 per cent and I promised him that this time around, we will give him 80 per cent,” Ribadu said.
