Police nab INEC staff with thumb printed election papers in Niger

The Niger State Police command have arrested a staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Sambo ward of Rijau Local Government area.

Identified as Ibrahim Tanko, our correspondent learnt that the ad-hoc staff was nabbed on Friday night for allegedly being in possession of two booklets of already thumb printed papers in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party.

INEC spokesman in the state, Mohammadu Wase confirmed the arrest in a telephone chat but says investigations are underway.

A senior officer in the state who would not want his name in print also confirmed the incident but said the suspect and the matter would be transferred to the state headquarters as soon as preliminary investigation is concluded.
