Nigeria has extended travel restrictions to Sweden and Austria as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.
Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, disclosed this at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday.
On Wednesday, the country banned travel from 13 countries worst hit by coronavirus, including the US, the UK and China.
The other countries on the travel restriction list are Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Japan, France, Germany, Norway, The Netherlands and Switzerland.
Although the restrictions do not apply to Nigerians abroad or people with valid residence permit, all citizens arriving in Nigeria who might have visited these countries, 14 days prior to such arrival, will be subjected to supervised self-isolation and testing for 14 days.
The federal government also suspended the issuance of all visas on arrival and asked Nigerians to cancel or postpone all non-essential travels to these countries.
Nigeria currently has 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19. But two patients have recovered from the disease.
Over 250,000 cases of the disease were recorded across the world on Friday — and with more than 10,000 deaths.
