Nigeria records two new coronavirus cases, toll now 42

Nigeria recorded two new coronavirus cases in Lagos and Ogun states. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced this via its Twitter handle on Tuesday.

It said one case is a returning traveller while the second case is contact of a previously confirmed case.

“2 new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria. 1 is in Lagos State & 1 in Ogun One case is a returning traveler. The second case is contact of a previously confirmed case As at 1pm on March 24, there are 42 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria-2 discharged, 1 death,” the tweet read.

The 42 cases are confirmed across six states with Lagos having 29, while Abuja has seven.

Ogun has 3 cases, while Ekiti, Oyo and Edo states have one case each.

Nigeria recorded its first death from the disease on Monday.

The casualty was Suleiman Achimugu, a former managing director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), who died after returning from the UK.

The country has put in place several measures to curb the spread of the virus.

Such measures include closure of airports to international flights, closure of land borders, suspension of events, closure of schools, and ban on large gatherings.
