NIPR mourns former president, Bob Ogbuagu

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations(NIPR) on Friday expressed sadness over the death of its former president, Bob Ogbuagu, at 92. The institute announced Ogbuagu’s demise in a statement signed by its Senior Assistant Registrar, Mrs Stella Sawyer, in Lagos.

Ogbuagu, who passed-on on Aug. 21, was President Emeritus of the Federation of African Public Relations Associations (FAPRA).

According to the NIPR, Ogbuagu, who was born on Sunday, May 25, 1925 at Umuahia, Abia State, was known as the doyen of Africa’s PR practitioners, whose media career spanned the broad segment of communication.

It added that that led to his election as president of the institute, saying that he was also into advertising and newspaper production, among others.

“An engaging speaker, great organiser and a quintessential public relations expert, Ogbuagu went into Journalism became Publisher and Editor of the Northern Advocate, a newspaper based in Jos, Plateau State.

“After he rested the newspaper, he held top positions in the then Eastern Region, the East Central and Imo States. He was also a Press Officer with the Eastern Region Development Corporation.

“A holder of six different traditional titles, the late media guru was married to Cecilia Chinyere Ogbuagu and is survived by six children and many grandchildren.”
