Northern Governors on Saturday held an emergency meeting in Kaduna to evolve measures to resolve the crisis between members of the Shiite (Islamic movement) and the Nigerian Army.

The meeting, convened under the auspices of the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF) was chaired by the chairman of the forum, Gov. Kassim Shettima of Borno.

Addressing his colleagues, Shettima said the meeting was convened to ensure that the crisis did not escalate to other states in the North as was the case with Boko Haram.

“We are here in connection with the recent happening in Zaria. We do not want to commit the mistakes that happened in the case of Boko Haram.”

“Kaduna is to the North what Lagos is to the South-West. We are here to discuss on security measures that needed to be taken to address the issue,” he said.

Shettima gave the assurance that the governors would come up with solution to resolve the crisis.

The meeting later went into close door session; a communiqué is expected to be issued at end of the meeting.
