The Publicity Secretary, Ogun State Executive Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress, Tunde Oladunjoye, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, over an alleged threat to his life.

He sought the protection of the police for himself and his family.

In the petition dated January 23, 2019, submitted to the force headquarters, Abuja on Friday, the politician said an anonymous phone caller informed him that he has been marked for an attack by suspected political opponents in Ogun State.

The letter read, “At exactly 7.31pm on January 13, I received a phone call from an MTN line. The caller speaking in Yoruba language, identified himself as Segun.

“He warned me seriously that I have been marked for an attack between ‘today and Sunday’ and begged me not to take his information with levity.

“The informant, who sounded agitated, hurried switched off my line. My immediate check on the number via the Truecaller App could not link the number to any name.

“Realising that our recent intelligence reports have pointed towards just one direction, and coupled with the fact that the informant said my time starts from ‘now’, I immediately issued an SOS message, which I shared on the social media and also sent to the APC leaders.”

The petitioner requested the IGP to order an investigation into the threat and the rising political violence in the state, citing various media reports on the development.

Attached to the petition was a letter earlier written to President Muhammadu Buhari and copied to the National Security Adviser and the Director-General of Department of State Security as well as the advertorial chronicling the violent political incidents in Ogun State from October 1, 2018.

The APC spokesman also referred to the attack that led to the death of one Isiaka Yusuf in Ijebu Ode on December 10, 2018, including other victims of political violence in the state.

He added, “In view of the ongoing, I hereby, with due respect, seek protection of the police for my family and me. I also urge you to investigate the threat to my life.

“I repeat the demand of our party, the APC, that the IG should set up an independent panel to investigate the growing political and other related violent incidents in our once peaceful state, especially since October 1, 2018 till date.”
