Former Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ogun State, Comrade Niyi Osoba has been elected as the new Chairman of the Labour Party in Ogun State.

Osoba’s election was ratified on Wednesday during the congress of the party held at the Centenary Hall, Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State, where delegates had gathered to elect new executive council members to run the affairs of the party in line with the directives of the National Working Committee of the party.

Also elected include six deputies namely Nuru Olaleye, Wasiu Agbetokun, Aderopo M., Comrade John Laleye, Comrade Samson Okusanya and Rafatu Sanni.

Hon. Dapo Adeyemi was elected as the State Secretary while Fatai Yinusa emerged as the paty’s Financial Secretary Other executive officers elected included Hon. Deji Kalejaye; Public Relations Officer, Gboyega Okenla; Legal Adviser and Kelani Orisatolu; Auditor.

The new State Woman Leader, Mujidat Ogunnaike would be assisted by Omolola Soyombo, Bosipo and Basirat Adeyemi as Deputy Women Leaders.

Former member of the Ogun State House Assembly, Hon. Bankole Oyebode emerged as the State Youth Leader to be assisted by Tope Obadina, Layiwola Sobanjo and Comrade S. O. Ayeni while Comrade Michael Adegbola emerged as the party’s Organising Secretary.

The exercise, which was witnessed by thousands of party supporters from across the State was observed by the representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the State Security Service (SSS) as well as members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The congress which was held under a very peaceful atmosphere, started with the registration of delegates at about 10 a.m and presided over by the National Deputy Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja.

In his address to the tumultuous crowd at the event, Hon. Akinlaja said he was sure of Labour Party’s victory in the forthcoming polls going by the wide acceptance of the party by all people across the State.

Akinlaja stressed that with the successful holding of the much expected Congress, the baton of leadership of the party in the State has been passed to the newly elected officials who shall steer the affairs of the party at the State level.

The Acting Chairman of the Labour Party in Ogun State, Comrade John Laleye in his valedictory speech, thanked the national leadership of the Party for giving him the opportunity to serve while also charging those who will take over the mantle of leadership in the state to be resolute in the resolve to sack the present administration in the State in 2015.
