The National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday said that its candidate for the 2015 governorship election in Akwa-Ibom State will emerge from Eket senatorial zone.

According to the PDP’s national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, only candidates from the zone will be allowed to contest the governorship primaries in the state.

Metuh said that the decision to limit the emergence of the party’s standard bearer in the coming election to Eket senatorial zone was made after the NWC had reviewed Akwa-Ibom State’s exco’s decision.

He said, “After a review of the decision of the enlarged State Executive Committee of Akwa-Ibom state, the National Working committee (NWC) has accepted and fully endorsed the decision to zone the Akwa-Ibom state governorship position to Eket Senatorial Zone.

Accordingly, the NWC expects that only aspirants from Eket Senatorial Zone will present themselves for the governorship primary election in the state.

In the spirit of internal democracy, the NWC promises that there will be free, fair and transparent congresses. Aspirants from Eket Senatorial Zone are therefore encouraged to fully participate in the process.”
