The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, on Thursday, boycotted the May Day rally at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
The PENSGASSAN President, Babatunde Ogun, said that the boycott was to show solidarity with parents of the more than 200 school girls kidnapped in Chibok, Borno.
He called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts toward rescuing the girls without further delay and urged the government to take steps to end all forms of violence and restore peace and security to all parts of the country.
He described the inability of the security agencies to rescue the girls so far as worrisome, saying it had put the nation in a mournful state.
He said “we demand that all machinery, including collaborating with foreign countries that have sophisticated and hi-technology equipment for surveillance, be put in place.
“Government must ensure that the girls are rescued and reunited with their parents and guardians as soon as possible.”
The PENGASSAN boss also called on the National Assembly to expedite action and pass the Petroleum Industry Bill.
He said that the delay in passing the bill was discouraging investments into the oil and gas sector.
