Poll fraud: Ex-Bauchi PDP LG chairman refunds N6m to EFCC

The former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Bagoro local government area of Bauchi State, Andrew Adamu, has refunded N6 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Gombe zonal office out of the N12.06 million that was disbursed to the local government areas in the build-up of the 2015 presidential election.

Adamu paid in through bank draft, N5 million in addition to the N1 million he had earlier refunded.

Adamu admitted to the zonal office of the Commission during an interrogation that he signed and collected the said amount in the presence of Hon. Marcus Bulus Makama, a current member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly and former caretaker chairman of the local government Mrs. Hasanna Arkila who signed as witnesses for the collection of the amount.

Adamu told the operatives of the EFCC that the former commissioner for rural development, Hon.Bukata Bayero Bukar was the chairman of the stakeholders while Hon.Moses Hankali was the secretary, stakeholders committee of the PDP, shared the money for the re-election of the former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The suspects promised the zonal office of the Commission that they will returned the balance of N6 million in November.

Meanwhile, the former Bauchi local government chairman, Bala Abubakar Maigoro was also quizzed by EFCC over N48,.02 million poll fraud.

Maigoro told the operatives of the EFCC Gombe zonal office during interrogation that he signed and collected the said amount on behalf of the local government in the presence of the former member of the house of representative from the State, Hon.Aminu.D Mohammed, and the former caretaker chairman of the local government Umar.M Aliyu who signed as a witness.

Maigoro also told the EFCC that the money was disbursed through the stakeholders of the local government among whom were, the former Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice in Bauchi State, Barrister Mukhtar Usman Abubakar, a former member of the State house of assembly Hon.Danlami Ahmed, and Mohammed Danladi Umar who was the secretary of the stakeholders committee.

They said the money was given to them out of the N500 million that was disbursed to Bauchi State in 2015 general election.

The suspects reported to the zonal office of the Commission except Abubakar, and agreed to return the money to the Commission.
