Rampaging soldiers shoot protesting UniJos students

Rampaging soldiers on Tuesday allegedly opened fire on protesting students at the Bauchi road campus of the University of Jos, and shot a blind student.

A 300-level Political Science student of the university, who did not want to be identified for fear of victimisation by the police, said the affected student was about entering the school premises when he got shot by a fully armed soldier who was chasing protesting students.

The University of Jos students had in the early hours of Tuesday resumed their protest over the increment of the school’s development level, which is now N10,000, the increment of acceptance fee for fresh students, N25,000 and the N10, 000 increment in tuition fee for returning students.

On Monday, the protesting students held the university authority hostage, barricaded the Bauchi road campus, hindering free flow of traffic.

The University Registrar, Jully Dandam, had in a statement, said a seven-person committee has been inaugurated to look into the agitations.
