Red Cross disburses N10m to 300 beneficiaries in Niger

The Nigerian Red cross Society (NRCS) has disbursed N10 million to 300 beneficiaries from Kontagora, Bida and Chanchaga Local Government Areas of Niger.

The NRCS, with the support of the International Federation of Red cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), disbursed the funds on Friday in Minna.

Alhaji Ibrahim Ingaski, Team Leader of the donors and NRCS Secretary, Kebbi branch, said 100 beneficiaries selected from each local government areas got N30,500 each.

Ingaski urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously.
Malam Dauda Mohammed, Cash Transfer Programme (CTP) officer of the Red Cross in Abuja, said the gesture was to ameliorate the suffering of beneficiaries due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Mohamed, also the Disaster Management Coordinator, National Headquarters of the Red Cross, Abuja, noted that the IFRC deemed it fit to assist the people because it was one of their statutory responsibilities.

Also, Alhaji Bala Abdullahi, assistant team leader of the CTP in the state, said the cash donation was in line with the seven fundamental principles of humanity.

Earlier, Alhaji Hamisu Jankaro, Chairman, NRCS in the state, said the gesture would put a smile on the faces of beneficiaries in line with international best practices.

Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed, the state branch Secretary, thanked IFRC and NRCS for choosing the state to benefit from the CTP.

Some of the beneficiaries of the CTP thanked the IFRC and NRCS for the gesture and promised judicious use of the money.
