About one week after Honourable Golden Chioma, the lawmaker representing Etche II Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, was kidnapped, his captors are demanding N200m as ransom.

A source close to the family of the victim said the kidnappers had established contact with them (family members) and asked for N200m as ransom, though it was gathered that the family told the abductors of their breadwinner that they could not pay such an amount of money, it could not be ascertained if the kidnappers were ready to reduce the amount.

“They (kidnappers) have established contact with some family members of the lawmaker and they are asking for N200m as ransom. But the family members are saying they do not have such an amount of money,” the source who spoke under anonymity said.

Chioma, who is the House Committee Chairman on Judiciary, was abducted in the night around Diobu area of Port Harcourt by three armed men.

It was gathered that the lawmaker had gone to inspect his house still under construction before he was accosted and whisked away by the hoodlums.

Sources said the incident, which occurred between 7.30pm and 8pm caused confusion within the area as residents watched helplessly as the lawmaker was being driven away to an unknown destination.
