Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), the ace Nollywood actor, says he does not like being called a legend.

In an interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, the film star said he doesn’t embrace the title because he perceives it to be a “scam.”

He said that it is actors like Olu Jacobs and Pete Edochie that truly deserve the title of legends, and he doesn’t see himself in that category yet.

He explained that such a label makes it seem like he is past his prime and approaching his retirement.

“I think all those legend things are a scam. I have my legends like Uncle Olu Jacobs and Uncle Peter; those are our ancestors, our legends,” he said.

“I was still watching him when he was saying Ribena children are healthy children.

“So I don’t subscribe to that. I think it is a scam when they call me a legend because they are trying to relegate me to that neighbourhood of retired people or people who should be nearing retirement. So, no, I don’t subscribe to it.”

Born on July 6, 1961, RMD hails from the Aladja community in the Udu Kingdom, Delta State.

He attended primary and secondary schools in Warri and studied Theater Arts at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

He is considered one of the frontrunners in the Nigerian movie industry, with a career spanning over three decades.

RMD has also earned a plethora of nominations and awards for his craft.
