President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Tuesday decried the death of seven female students in a fire incident that gutted their hostel at the Government Girls Secondary School, Jogana, Kano State.
Saraki, while wishing other students that sustained injuries during the unfortunate incident a quick recovery, called on the Kano State Government and relevant security agencies to unravel the cause of the incident so as to prevent future occurrence.
The Senate President in a condolence message to the Kano State Government, families of the victims and the school management, said he was saddened at the news of the inferno that wrought havoc on the school’s girls’ hostel even at a time when the State is just recovering from an unfortunate attack by the Boko Haram insurgents a few weeks ago.
Saraki said, “As a father, I received the news of this tragic incident with shock and I most sincerely sympathize with those that lost their lives and others that sustained various degree of injuries in the inferno.
“The trauma of the incident is much a burden for us to bear. My heart goes out to the families of affected students. It was so pathetic.
“I want to use this medium to call on the authority of the school and other organizations across the country to always be vigilant and take measures to prevent any such occurrence especially in institutions where our future leaders are being groomed.
“Our future lay in the hands of our young ones. To lose them in these type of unusual circumstances is unacceptable. We must do all that is necessary to prevent a recurrence of this type of avoidable deaths and injuries,” he stated.
While appealing to the affected parents to remain calm, the President of the Senate, prayed God to give the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, just as he assured of government’s commitment towards the safety and wellbeing of all citizens.
