Senegal has extradited a Guinean soldier accused of being responsible for a massacre during a 2009 opposition rally which killed 150 people.

A Guinean government official said on Monday that Aboubacar Diakete, the bodyguard of former junta leader Dadis Camara, was flown to Conakry on Sunday, where he would remain in detention until a date is set for his trial.

Spokesman Damantang Camara told newsmen “Diakete, who is accused of being one of the people responsible for the massacre, was arrested in December in the Senegalese capital of Dakar, after seven years on the run”.

However, the Guinean government requested Diakete’s extradition in January.

Over 150 people were killed and dozens injured in September 2009, when 50,000 opposition members peacefully protested against the junta government that had come to power after a 2008 coup d’etat.
