Hundreds of soldiers are said to be leaving the town of Mubi in Adamawa State, as members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect make advances to take over the town.
Mubi is the second largest town in the state and where the state university is located.
Sources said that the insurgents have already taken over Mararaba Hildi, some few kilometres to Mubi town, prompting a mass exodus of security agents.
The insurgents were also said to have attacked Uba Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Tuesday night.
A military source who is in Kala, some kilometres to Mubi said he saw soldiers leaving with their armoured cars and rifles to escape the advancing Boko Haram insurgents.
He said the insurgents have mounted their flags at Mararaba, gaining enough ground to launch an assault on Mubi town.
The source said, “It was an embarrassment seeing soldiers running away with their weapons. As I am taking to you now, I am in Kala and I saw the soldiers in convoys of cars leaving the town.
“It is just a pity that we are not telling ourselves the truth, because there is nothing like ceasefire with Boko Haram. People are just suffering and somebody is out there playing politics with their lives.
“It was just a pity that I was driving and could not take the picture of those fleeing soldiers. This country is in serious trouble.”
However another military source told our correspondent the military are currently conducting aerial raids to flush out the insurgents from the areas.
