Stakeholders converge on Ibadan to discuss Xenophobia

Stakeholders in the Diaspora and Transnational affairs will on Wednesday converge on University of Ibadan to discuss the effects of Xenophobia on people in Africa.

In a statement by the Coordinator of Diaspora and Transnational Studies programme, University of Ibadan, Dr Senayon Olaoluwa said the discourse was to look at other side of Xenophobia in South Africa as it affects other Africans.

Entitled: “Xenophobia beyond the South Africa Imaginary: Tracking Xenophobia and its Trajectories in Africa,” Olaoluwa said over 10 discussants from both Nigeria and South Africa are slated for the discourse at the Lady Bank Anthony Hall, University of Ibadan at 11 am on Wednesday.

Olaoluwa, who is the convener of the conference, said the discussants and participants would look at the Xenophobia from both South Africa and other African’s perspectives.

He listed some of the discussants as Professors Adigun Agbaje, Isaac Albert, Obodomina Oha, Charles Adesina, Aderemi Raji-Oyelade, all from University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Others include Dr Jendele Hungbo, North-West University, South Africa, Dr Osita Ezeliora of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye while Dr Bukola Adesina, Dr Willie Eselebor, Dr Nathaniel Danjibo, Dr Ololajulo are from the University of Ibadan.

Olaoluwa said the views generated from the conference would be collated and pass on to the policy makers in the affected countries for implementation geared towards making the society a better place.
