A suspected child kidnapper was on Tuesday apprehended and beaten to a state of unconsciousness by an angry mob at Odunade Bus stop, along Orile-Badagry express road in Lagos.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who witnessed the incident reports that the suspect was beaten and stripped naked as blood gushed out from parts of his body.

Passers-by who spoke to NAN gave different accounts of how the man whose name could not immediately be ascertained attempted to steal the children.

Omololu Ojo, a dispatch rider, said that the man was caught at Odunade bus stop while attempting to take the children aged between six and three away.

“Somebody who knows the children saw him taking them and alerted the parents who were already looking for them.

“He tried to tell lies but they held him until the mother of the children arrived and took them away,” Ojo said.

Other witnesses gave various account of how the man was caught but the corroborative story was that the mother of the children did not know the suspect who took them without her consent.

NAN could not get the name of the man and where he came from as a result of his unconscious state.

When NAN visited the Orile-Iganmu Police Station, the security officers said that such matter had yet to be reported.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joseph Offor, told NAN that he had yet to get information on the incident.

Offor promised to make public details of the incident as soon as he confirmed it.
