Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger has been given a four-match touchline ban and 25,000 pounds fine after accepting a Football Association charge of misconduct for his misbehavior in the win over Burnley.

Wenger, 67, was charged with verbally abusing and pushing fourth official Anthony Taylor after being sent off.

The Frenchman will miss Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Southampton and Premier League games against Watford, Chelsea and Hull.

Wenger will be back for the Premier League trip to Liverpool on March 4.

The Frenchman reacted angrily to Burnley being awarded a 93rd-minute penalty at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, one they scored to level at 1-1.

After being sent to the stands by referee Jon Moss, Wenger moved away from the pitch but stood at the tunnel entrance and refused to move as he tried to watch the remaining few minutes of Sunday’s match.

As Taylor encouraged him to move away, Wenger was seen to push back against him.

Arsenal were then given a penalty of their own, which was converted by Alexis Sanchez.

Immediately after the match, Wenger apologised, saying: “I should have shut up – I apologise for not having done that.

“It was nothing malicious. I should have kept my control, even if it was in a hectic time.”

Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger has warned his players not to slip when they visit out-of-form Southampton in the Barclays Premier League on Boxing Day.

Wenger’s side travel to St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday looking for a fourth successive league victory as they look to keep pace with leaders Leicester City.

Arsenal trail Claudio Ranieri’s men by two points, but enjoy a four-point cushion to third-placed Manchester City.

To maintain that difference, they need to remain focused against Ronald Koeman’s side, who have just one point from their last five matches, a 1-1 home draw with bottom club Aston Villa.

“For us the most important thing is to focus on ourselves, and not to speculate too much on any weakness of Southampton,” Wenger said.

“When you look at their team they have the potential to be a very strong team. We have to convince ourselves that again we need a top-level performance.

“Football is pragmatic. No one can predict what will happen in the next 17 games. So we want to go in with same attitude, spirit, and earn the right to win the games.”

Santi Cazorla (knee), Alexis Sanchez (hamstring) and Jack Wilshere (calf), remain sidelined for Arsenal although Sanchez is closer to return than others.

Southampton also welcome their goalkeeper, Maarten Stekelenburg, back after missing two matches with a toe injury.

Facing Arsenal will be a daunting task for the hosts given the impressive recent displays by Wenger’s side, the visitors having beaten title rivals Manchester City 2-1 last time out.

“We know we’re in a difficult situation,” said Koeman, whose side won the fixture 2-0 last season. “We had a bad run last year, but not like this one.

“It is always difficult, it means maybe a lack in confidence and belief, but the best medicine is to win the game. The team is changing a bit, the team is doubting their qualities and not playing as they can, and that’s all about confidence.

“But they have to realise we can play good football, but we need to score when we have chances.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will do “absolutely everything” to ensure Jack Wilshere is fit for the World Cup.

The midfielder, 22, was ruled out for eight weeks after breaking a bone in his left foot during  England’s 1-0 win over Denmark on Wednesday on Wednesday.

England’s World Cup campaign begins against Italy on 14 June.

“To go to a World Cup for a player is immense and I will do absolutely everything so that he can get there,” said Wenger.

Wenger expects fellow midfielders Kim Kallstrom and Aaron Ramsey to be fit within a week.

Ramsey last played on 26 December, while  Kallstrom has yet to feature since joining on loan in January.

Wilshere sustained the injury early on in the   win over the Danes in what Wenger believes was an “accidental” challenge by Liverpool’s Daniel Agger.

A six-week absence was diagnosed but Wenger expects a further two will be needed to recapture full fitness, though he believes a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the World Cup is not in jeopardy for Wilshere.

“A fracture is a fracture, it is not muscular or a ligament,” said Wenger, 64. “Once it is healed, you do not have to have any restriction in your preparation.”

Wilshere, who missed Euro 2012 with an ankle injury, made his senior debut in 2010 but has only earned 15 caps, with injuries limiting his opportunities with the national side.

Hodgson will name a 23-man squad and seven back-up players on 13 May, but Wilshere will miss key games for Arsenal before then.

After Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Everton, Arsenal face Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League tie.

The third-placed Gunners also face Premier League fixtures against Tottenham, Manchester City and leaders Chelsea in March as they seek to close a four-point gap on Jose Mourinho’s side.

In his news conference ahead of this weekend’s cup tie against the Toffees, Wenger also revealed Ramsey and Santi Cazorla are “very close” to signing new contracts.

The pair would join Tomas Rosicky and Per Mertesacker  in committing their future to the Gunners.

Arsenal look destined to perish at the same stage of the Champions League and against the same opponents as last season after Bayern Munich won convincingly at Emirates Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side remain on course in their bid to become the first side to retain the Champions League as second-half goals from Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller gave them an emphatic advantage in their last-16 first-leg tie.

It will be a night of regrets for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and his players after Mesut Ozil’s careless early penalty was saved by Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer and opposite number Wojciech Szczesny was sent off before half-time for fouling Arjen Robben in the area.

David Alaba was also wasteful as he hit the post from the resulting penalty – but there was no escape for 10-man Arsenal after the break as Bayern’s greater numbers and quality proved decisive.

The outstanding Kroos scored spectacularly from 20 yards just after half-time and substitute Muller headed in the second two minutes from time.

Arsenal won 2-0 in the second leg last season, going out on away goals, but it is hard to see them producing the three-goal winning margin they require against a Bayern side that are arguably stronger under Guardiola than it was when they claimed the crown last season.

Manchester United manager David Moyes was an interested spectator and it is likely Bayern’s Kroos was the object of his attentions after being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

On this evidence, however, Kroos is a player of such pedigree that he belongs in the Champions League, somewhere United are increasingly unlikely to be next season. It is also hard to see such a talent being allowed to escape by Bayern.

Wenger delivered a selection surprise by starting with Yaya Sanogo up front ahead of the experienced Olivier Giroud – and the 21-year-old was prominent as Arsenal and Bayern set the tone for a wonderfully entertaining opening half.

Szczesny showed superb reactions and athleticism to dive high to his left to save from Kroos while Neuer demonstrated equal expertise to make a low stop from Sanogo.

Arsenal were making an uninhibited start and were rewarded with a penalty after only nine minutes when Ozil was fouled by Jerome Boateng as he tried to turn inside the defender.

Ozil took the penalty but – just as when he missed against Marseille in the group stage – the run-up was hesitant and the spot-kick feeble, allowing Neuer, his childhood friend, to thrust up a hand to save.

Arsenal suffered a setback before the interval as Kieran Gibbs went down injured and was replaced by Nacho Monreal before another moment of drama as half-time approached.

Kroos showed his vision to create an opening for Robben, who was fouled by Szczesny as they challenged for the ball. Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli awarded the penalty and sent off Arsenal’s keeper.

Santi Cazorla was the player sacrificed as Lukasz Fabianski replaced Szczesny in goal. He was not called into action as Alaba rolled another poor penalty against the outside of the post.

Bayern made their numerical superiority count as they took the lead nine minutes into the second half. Kroos had been majestic all evening and his finish was no different as he swept Philipp Lahm’s pass high past Fabianski with a first-time finish with his right foot.

Guardiola’s men were now dominating and Fabianski did well to save from Robben when he was afforded far too much space inside Arsenal’s area.

And Robben was close again with a trademark curling left-foot effort from the right wing that was only inches away from the far post with Fabianski beaten.

The second goal had been threatened and it arrived via Muller’s stooping header – and there was almost time for a final flourish from Kroos when he sent a low shot against the post.

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger says his side are a stronger team since their Champions League loss to Bayern Munich last year.

His side went out on away goals last year after  losing 3-1 in the first leg of their previous last-16 clash 12 months ago.

They face the German and European champions once again in the last 16 this time around with the first leg again at the Emirates on Wednesday.

Arsenal was well beaten by Bayern Munich at Emirates Stadium.

The Bundesliga leaders Bayern had in the same round last year spanked Arsenal 3-1 before its capacity crowd at the Emirate Stadium.

Toni Kroos and Thomas Mueller gave Bayern control with two early goals, and even though Lukas Podolski pulled a goal back for Arsenal in the second half, Mario Mandzukic’s scrambled third left the Gunners requiring something bordering on miraculous in Germany.

Arsenal showed plenty of spirit, but Bayern simply carried too much quality and experience. All evidence suggests a fight for a place in the Premier League’s top four can be Wenger’s only realistic target for the rest of the season.

The old defensive fragility undermined Arsenal, and in attack they ran up against a resolute Bayern defence that offered little to the likes of Theo Walcott.

Arsenal’s fragile confidence required some repair following the Blackburn defeat – but Bayern pounced ruthlessly on a vulnerable opponent to score twice in the first 21 minutes.

Kroos struck first after only seven minutes when he was left unattended on the edge of the area and showed fine technique in controlling a powerful volley into the turf that beat Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Arsenal’s fans roared their team forward in raucous fashion, with no hint of dissent, but their plight worsened as they swiftly conceded another sloppy goal to ensure Bayern were in total command. Szczesny could only palm out Daniel van Buyten’s near-post header and Mueller reacted quicker than Mikel Arteta to turn the rebound into the roof of the net.

Wenger’s side were frustrated in their attempts to subdue Bayern and it resulted in first-half yellow cards for Bacary Sagna, Thomas Vermaelen and Arteta.

The Gunners showed reserves of resilience but Bayern’s pace, power and relentless work-rate made them an ominous threat. Mandzukic almost added a third moments before half-time when his header was only inches wide from Philipp Lahm’s right-wing cross.

Arsenal were in desperate straits and needed to muster a swift response. It came 10 minutes after the restart when Germany striker Podolski headed in after Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer failed to deal with a corner.

It offered Arsenal hope at last. And with his side finally gathering momentum, Wenger made a double change with 19 minutes left, sending on Olivier Giroud and Tomas Rosicky for Podolski and Aaron Ramsey.

Mario Mandzukic became the 10th different player to score a Champions League goal for Bayern Munich in 2012-13

Frenchman Giroud almost brought Arsenal level with his first touch, a snap-shot that was blocked, with more than an element of good fortune, by Neuer.

As Arsenal’s supporters sensed the possibility of an unlikely comeback, Bayern scored what will surely prove to be a killer third goal that owed something to both accident and design.

Substitute Arjen Robben, on for Franck Ribery, played in the marauding Lahm. The Bayern captain found Mandzukic, who fell and half-hit his attempted finish only to see the bounce wrong-foot Szczesny and end up in the net.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Jose Mourinho has embarrassed Chelsea by calling him a “specialist in failure”.

Blues boss Mourinho made the remark after Wenger said other Premier League managers were playing down their title chances because they “fear to fail”.

But, after Arsenal’s 2-1 FA Cup win over Liverpool, Wenger said Mourinho’s words were “silly and disrespectful”.

Chelsea top the Premier League by a point from the Gunners, with Manchester City another two points back in third.

“I do not want to go into that silly, disrespectful remark,” Wenger told BT Sport, adding that “I never spoke about him in my press conference and I will not start.

“The only thing I know is it’s more embarrassing for Chelsea than for me. I’m embarrassed for him, honestly. I’m not interested in the subject at all. That is really genuine.

“I love football – and I’m sorry to disappoint you – what’s interesting for me is what happens on the pitch.”

Mourinho has previously criticised Wenger, the Blues boss having described him as a “voyeur” in 2005 after his rival questioned Chelsea’s transfer policy.

On Monday he was quoted by several newspapers as saying: “The only thing I feel is that I was very quiet in my place and somebody spoke not in a nice way about us.

“After that, I don’t accept that one is always ‘Monsieur polite’ and the other one is always the bad guy. I don’t accept, I’m sorry.”

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson told BBC Radio 5 live on Sunday that the Portuguese is a “bully” engaging in “boring” mind games.

Wenger’s side moved into the FA Cup quarter-finals with victory in an enthralling fifth-round tie on Sunday.

Goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski put Arsenal, who have not won any silverware since their 2005 FA Cup triumph, into the last eight.

It helped avenge last weekend’s 5-1 thrashing at Anfield in the Premier League, while also providing a timely confidence boost ahead of Wednesday’s visit of Champions League last-16 opponents Bayern Munich.

But after Steven Gerrard gave the visitors hope with a 59th-minute penalty, the Gunners were fortunate not to concede a second spot-kick for a clumsy Oxlade-Chamberlain tackle on Suarez.

“The intensity of the performance pleased me, I am very proud of the way we responded to the huge defeat that we had last week,” said Wenger.

Mourinho’s side were eliminated from the FA Cup by a 2-0 defeat at fellow title chasers Manchester City on Saturday

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger says he has no personal rivalry with Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho.

Wenger has yet to beat the Portuguese in nine attempts, most recently losing a Capital One Cup fourth-round tie 2-0 at home to Chelsea in October.

But victory over the Blues at the Emirates Stadium on Monday will take Arsenal back above Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table. “It is not a personal battle,” Wenger said.

“Honestly, we had some big games in the past, but what is important for me is that I am completely focused on Arsenal Football Club and on my team and doing well in the team.

“Whether we play Monday night against Chelsea or anybody else, for me it is exactly the same, because what is at stake for us is to get back to winning habits.”

The relationship between the two managers has been fiery in the past, with Wenger being called a “voyeur” by Mourinho in 2005 over comments made about events at Stamford Bridge.

“Once you are out of competition, everybody is different,” said the Frenchman, whose side have been the early Premier League pacesetters before a draw and a defeat in their last two games saw them overtaken by Liverpool.

“We have spent time together in Geneva at the Uefa managers’ meeting. Here is competition time, so everybody fights for his team and his club.”

Mourinho also played down the significance of his record of five wins and four draws against Wenger.

“It’s not me against Wenger,” said Mourinho, whose side would draw level on points with leaders Liverpool with a win. It’s my Chelsea against his Arsenal. And [the record] doesn’t play Monday. It has no influence. That stat, for the game on Monday, means nothing.

“I just feel that we played better, we deserved more and we won these matches. In my time I remember just one game where we were close to losing, which was a game at home where (Michael) Essien scored the equalising goal in the last part of the game (in the December 2006 Premier League draw).

“After that, even at the Emirates, playing with 10 men for 75 minutes we played a fantastic match and we drew 1-1 (in May 2007). My memories are that against them we played very good matches. As a consequence of that we got good results.”

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has challenged his side to prove the doubters wrong after insisting it is no coincidence they are top of the league.

The Gunners entertain third-placed Liverpool on Saturday with some still doubting their title credentials.

“It is down to us to prove them wrong. It is a continuation of what we started in early 2013,” said Wenger.

“If you take a bigger perspective of our situation, it is not a coincidence we are where we are.”

Arsenal took 35 points out of a possible 42 – losing only to Tottenham – from the final 14 games of last season to secure Champions League qualification for the 16th successive campaign.

They have continued that form this season – losing just one of their first nine matches – and Wenger is confident his squad have the strength to cope with a difficult period.

Trips to Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United follow Liverpool’s visit.

“I don’t need to find out too much about my squad because we are a very stable team,” he said. “Since 1 January 2013, we have taken more points than anyone else.

“I learnt a lot about my team through the spring period when, with their backs to the wall, we had to win every single game. I know how strong these guys are and how much they want it.

“We are title contenders and Liverpool are as well, and four other teams certainly. It is an important period, but I am quite confident and relaxed because I have complete confidence we will deal well with the period.”

The Arsenal boss declined to discuss whether his summer interest in Liverpool’s in-form striker Luis Suarez was now over.

Liverpool turned down two bids from Arsenal for Suarez, even though the 26-year-old pleaded with his manager and the club’s owners to be allowed to join a team in the Champions League.

The Frenchman added: “He plays for Liverpool tomorrow [Saturday]. At the moment he is doing very well but what is important for me is the players who play for Arsenal.

“I believe that Olivier Giroud has proven he is an exceptional striker and I am convinced he will be able to prove that.”
