The PDP Professionals in Politics, group of young professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has supported the report of the party’s reconciliation committee headed by Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson.

For them, the Dickson’s report captured holistically the surest way to end the lingering crises in the PDP and for that reason want every true member of the party to accept it.

Speaking with journalists at the Kaduna International Airport, the Spokesman of the group, Farouk Ibrahim lamented the desperation of some leaders of the party especially those who have openly come out to condemn the report.

He explained that Governor Dickson and his team should be highly commended for recommending a template for the conduct‎ of a unity national convention that will usher in new national officers of the party.

“I am so at loss as to why people will condemn a report that for the first time since this entire crisis started has given us a way out. It confirms to me that those people are the true enemies of the party”.

“As a group we stand with the Dickson’s reconciliation committee report because it contains what we need to get back on track. Our party needs to reposition itself for 2019 and the report is a major step in that direction.

“As young professionals we urge our leaders and elders to prevail on anyone or group within the party who are still beating the drums of war to stop immediately. ‎We are talking about the future of our great party. We want a party that is intact to be bequeathed to us and not the other way”.

A‎ccording to him a lot of effort was put into the report‎ by the committee who worked so hard to achieve the feat within a short period and charged the national chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to without delay begin its implementation.

Ibrahim described Dickson as a consummate politician, an upright and dedicated party man who will never trade his conscience for any selfish gain and added that he remains truly one of the leading lights of the PDP.‎

“If not for the likes of Dickson we will not be breathing the air of peace by now in the PDP. If not for Dickson we would have lost a very key state like Bayelsa where our former president hails from. So what do you want to say about this man who is so passionate about the PDP”.

“When you study the report he presented you will notice that all he opined was a political solution without prejudice to the pending case before the Supreme Court to end the impasse. I think we should applaud his dexterity and boldness”.

The spokesman for the group while maintaining their disposition to the recommendations of the report said they will soon pay a solidarity visit to Sheriff and Dickson to galvanize support ahead of the proposed June convention and asked the Ahmed Markarfi faction to collapse into the main fold of the PDP before they become extinct. ‎

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, on Thursday visited Oghara, the ancestral country home of former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said during the visit, the Governor held a closed door meeting with Chief Ibori in his residence.

The meeting centred mostly on peace and security in the Niger Delta, as well as possible roles the former Delta State Governor, who still commands a lot of respect among his people.

Ibori is expected to play a big role in rallying major stakeholders towards tackling some of the peace and security challenges in the region.

The statement further disclosed that, the two leaders equally discussed likely windows of opportunities for criminally minded youths in the region to be more meaningfully engaged as well as protect some of the critical national assets of the country within the region.

The Bayelsa State Governor, who had earlier spoken with his Delta State counterpart, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, expressed satisfaction with the disposition and resolve of the former Governor to support current measures at tackling the age long security challenges in the region.

Hon. Dickson was accompanied by the Secretary to State Government, some members of the State Executive Council, including the Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite.

Governor Dickson has since returned to Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The Bayelsa State governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has condemned in very strong terms, the recent unprovoked attack and killing of four security personnel in Nembe Creek and three Naval personnel in Foropa community in Nembe and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas of the State and other parts of the Niger Delta region.

According to him, such unwarranted attacks on the nation’s security personnel were putting the State and the region in bad light.

As part of the steps to check the activities of the youths, the unwholesome trend and improve the security situation in the State, he said community leaders, elders and other stakeholders would be summoned to a meeting at a date to be announced later.

Dickson in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, personally expressed regret over the unfortunate incident and called on the perpetrators of the dastardly killings and their collaborators to stop it with immediate effect.

“Terrorism does not favour peace, neither can democracy express itself through violence”, Dickson emphasised.

The governor’s condemnation came on the heels of President Muhammadu Buhari’s order on the military to go on a manhunt for the perpetrators and clamp down all security threats in the Niger Delta region.

Dickson stated that the killings were also putting the innocent ones in the state and the Niger Delta region in danger.

While warning that the government of Bayelsa State does not want a replay of the Odi massacre in 1999, during the administration of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, where only the innocent people suffered the brunt of the military invasion, the governor called on community leaders and other stakeholders to check the activities of youths in their domains.

Dickson, however, said that the government is already working in concert with the security agents to bring the culprits to book and forestall any future occurrences.

The governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, has said those sowing fabrications about his withdrawal from the suspended governorship contest are engaging in a failed effort to save their principal, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, from “sure and imminent defeat.”

Sylva, who spoke in Yenagoa on Thursday through his media adviser, Doifie Buokoribo, advised Dickson to stop dissipating energy on falsehood, hypocrisy, and deceit.

“Dickson should wait for the outcome of the governorship election and try to control his outbursts of fear and deceit, which cannot sway any Bayelsan, as the people already know better,” Buokoribo stated in a release.

The statement added, “The falsehood about Sylva’s withdrawal from the governorship contest that Dickson had tried to mar with his uncivilised vituperations and open call to violence is part of the same strategy of deceit and violence, which Dickson and PDP have employed since the beginning of the election process.

“In lie after lie, which we have roundly exposed, Dickson has shown that he has nothing other than deception to offer the people of Bayelsa in the on-going election. This latest chicanery about Sylva’s withdrawal, like the others before it, will not give Dickson any reprieve from the sure and imminent defeat awaiting him.

“Sylva has no reason to withdraw from the election he is poised to win. In fact, the matter has gone beyond Sylva. The people of Bayelsa State have bonded in a mass movement determined to make Dickson’s maladministration history.

“The issue is now between Dickson and the mass of the people who have resolved to vote him out. Little wonder he resorted to sponsorship of violence during the election, knowing he cannot win a peaceful contest in the state he has misruled for nearly four years.

“Dickson’s has achieved a remarkable notoriety for spreading lies about Sylva, using certain political newsletters masquerading as online newspapers, and sponsoring ridiculous suits on the on-going election.

“He has also set up a kangaroo commission of inquiry to try to divert attention from his crimes against Bayelsa people in the last few weeks. All these will fail.

“Sylva is at peace with himself and the Bayelsa people, as they patiently wait for the stilling of the violent storms initiated by Dickson and his co-travellers on the destructive path of political savagery, to take over power on 14 February 2016.
