First Bank of Nigeria Limited has again demonstrated its passion for women empowerment with its support of the Inspire for Women Conference scheduled for Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Agip Recital Hall, MUSON Centre, Lagos by 10:00am

The Conference will be headlined by the Chairman, Board of Directors, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Ibukun Awosika, alongside versatile Broadcaster and Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, Today’s Woman Magazine, Adesuwa Onyenokwe; and Professor of Cardiology and Head of Department, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Jane Ajuluchukwu.

The conference, a social entrepreneurship initiative with the Theme “Raising women for Leadership in Politics, Business, Career, Ministry and Family” is focused on raising women for leadership in various spheres of life and has been designed to provide participants with mentorship opportunities and business development training.

FirstBank has, over the years, supported women empowerment and women inclusion initiatives to encourage their participation and contribution to the growth and development of the economy.

The Bank had supported the Women of West Africa Excellence in Entrepreneurship (WOWe), Conference, Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WimBiz) Conference and recently hosted SME Workshops for Women-led SMEs in addition to several other women empowerment programmes.

According to the Group Head, Marketing & Corporate Communications at FirstBank, Folake Ani-Mumuney, the Bank is committed to initiatives that would raise women leaders and increase their participation in the polity. “We would continuously associate with initiatives that will inspire, mentor and raise a new generation of women,” she stated.

The Inspire for Women Conference series debuted in 2013 with a vision to raise, inspire and mentor women to take their place in the growth and development of the society as well as achieve their God-given potentials.

First Bank of Nigeria Limited has partnered with Genevieve Gatherings 2015 to raise the bar on Women empowerment.

The event themed ‘Becoming Financially Fearless’ was organised to advance the Nigerian woman’s financial confidence as well as secure their financial future.

Nimi Akinkugbe, CEO, Bestman Games Limited, Funmi Oyetunji, CEO, Abitos Financial Services Limited, Arese Ugwu, Head of Wealth Management at Partnership Investment Plc, and Tonye Cole, Co-Founder and Group Executive Director, Sahara Group were among the speakers at the event, expounding on a varying range of topics from financial management to risk taking in an uncertain economy.

Arunma Oteh, former Director General, Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, who chaired the event emphasized the need to become financially fearless, achieve business success and leave a legacy.

She advised the audience to read voraciously and widely, value investing more than spending and embrace mentorship.

FirstBank’s support for the event is one of the Bank’s many interventions to promote women inclusion and participation in the polity through financial awareness and empowerment.

Similar initiatives supported by the Bank recently include the Inspire for Women Conference, Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WimBiz) Conference, Women of West Africa Excellence in Entrepreneurship (WOWe) Conference, and the SME Workshops for women led SMEs anchored by the FirstBank Sustainability Centre in Lagos Business School, among several other women empowerment programmes.
