Chidinma Ojukwu, the 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), who confessed to stabbing Usifo Ataga, the CEO of Super TV, says he had forced sex on her.

Ataga was found in a pool of his blood after he was stabbed to death, with multiple wounds found on his body.

This was after the media mogul had reportedly lodged with the suspect at a hotel within the Lekki area of Lagos.

On Thursday, Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos police commissioner, while announcing the arrest of Chidinma, who is a 300-level Mass Communication student at UNILAG, said that the suspect had confessed to stabbing Ataga.

Chidinma, who was paraded at the state police command, narrated the circumstances that led to Ataga’s death.

She alleged that the businessman had forced sex on her the first time but a dispute ensued after he attempted it again.

“We were in the lodge smoking. He was trying to make advances on me. I was tired and he became violent on it. I let him have his way. Towards afternoon, he ordered roofies. We took it together and ate food,” Chidinma said.

“He became high. I was still not happy with the first one (sex) that we had, so, I was staying on my own, smoking and drinking. He, too, was on his own. He came to me and I told him I wasn’t happy with what he did.

“I was like, ‘You don’t help me, you don’t assist me with anything, you are just playing with me around. He was like, ‘Take my ATM and withdraw what you want’. He later became violent trying to get to me and I was resisting and defending myself. At some point, he hit my head on the wall and I also retaliated.

“At some point, he was chasing me around the kitchen cabinet. I took a knife and stabbed his neck. I approached the door and he followed me. I stabbed him twice on the neck side.

“I threw the knife to the bed and he was going for it but I also went for it. He dragged the knife with me and it broke and he fell on the floor.”

Odumosu had earlier stated that an investigation on the case was ongoing. He also revealed that the owner of the apartment rented out to the late Super TV CEO had since been arrested and was in police detention.

The Lagos State Police Command has revealed how a Togolese cook, Sunday Adefonou, allegedly stabbed his boss to death at his Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos residence.

The suspect, who reportedly stabbed Opeyemi Bademosi on the chest thrice on October 31 and escaped with valuables, was tracked to Ondo where he was arrested on November 2.

The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, said the suspect was availed the services of a French speaking lawyer from the Office of the Public Defender in the course of the investigation.

He said that the journey that eventually ended the life of Bademosi, a business mogul and an Ondo State indigene, began on October 28 when he employed a 22-year-old Togolese as cook.

“On October 31, three days after assuming duty, the suspect, with the intention to rob the deceased, made his way to his boss’ bedroom through the kitchen to the lobby and then to the room, which was the scene of the crime when he observed that the woman of the house, Mrs. Ebunola Bademosi, had left home for a transaction in a neighbourhood bank,” he said.

Oti said the suspect had told the deceased that he was not there to kill him but to get money while armed with a knife.

“According to the suspect, when he got to the deceased’s room and met him on the bed, he said, ‘Chief, I am not here to kill you.’

“The deceased asked him, ‘What do you want?’ and he replied ‘money.’ The deceased said he had no money in the house. At this point, the suspect said he tied him up with a cloth and put him on the floor.

“He went further to say that the deceased, while still on the floor, kicked him, causing the knife he tucked inside his pants to fall off.

“He added that the deceased crawled to pick the knife, but he (the suspect) was faster, and that, as he struggled with him, the knife accidentally pierced the deceased.

“He said that while exiting the room, the deceased took the knife to stab him, so he kicked him and he fell down.

“He then took the knife and stabbed him twice on the chest, which added to three knife stabs.

“When he was done killing the man, he entered his bathroom and threw away his apron already stained with blood and the kitchen knife used as murder weapon.

“He, thereafter, heard a knock on the kitchen door, and, sensing it must be the deceased’s wife, he ran out of the room and exited from the sitting room door.

“He was confronted by the guard at the gate, one Nura Mamudu, who asked him where he was hurrying to and he replied that ‘madam sent me on an errand.’

“Finding himself in the street, he came across men loading cement into a truck. He assisted them and they rewarded him with a lift to Ondo State and N500.00 given to him by the truck driver in appreciation.” Oti said.

The PPRO added that investigation revealed that the deceased’s wife entered the crime scene through the sitting room after knocking several times on the kitchen door without response from the suspect.

He said that the deceased, some minutes before his death, called his wife, Ebunola Bademosi on phone, complaining that the suspect broke into his bedroom uninvited.

“The suspect broke down in tears and confessed to the act after he was confronted with evidence of the CCTV footage.

“The suspect led the investigation team to the crime scene, demonstrating and reconstructing how he carried out the crime.

“The samples recovered from the scene of the incident have been handed over to Forensic and DNA Department of Ministry of Justice for examination and analysis,” Oti added.

Oti said that the autopsy report attributed the cause of death to (a) Bilateral Haemothorax (b) Laceration of the lung and intercostal vessels and (c) Multiple sharp force trauma to the chest.

He said other suspects — Kofi Friday, Agbeko Ayenahin, Salisu Hussein and Nura Mamudu — were not linked to the crime.

“Investigation has established a prima facie case of armed robbery/murder of one Opeyemi Bademosi, male, aged 67 years, against Sunday Adefonou Anani, male, 22 years.

“It is evident that the suspect, single handed, committed the crime by stabbing Mr. Opeyemi Bademosi to death with a kitchen knife with intent to steal from him.

“To this end, the suspect will be arraigned in court, while the other suspects who are not linked to the crime will be released to reliable sureties.

“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Edgal Imohimi, has directed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution for vetting and legal advice.

“He thanked Lagosians for keeping faith with the Police and for their patience throughout the duration of the murder investigation, which took the command a record of two days to unravel and apprehend the author of the crime, Sunday Adefonou Anani.

“He enthused that criminal investigation has gone beyond the era of rule of thumb to an era of scientific and research-based investigation in Lagos State Police Command,” Oti said.

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cheiftain in Lagos, Borishade Adeniyi, was on Saturday shot dead during a meeting of party members.

Chike Oti, Lagos command police spokesman, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, said the shooting occurred at Igbosuku village, Eti-Osa LGA, where the meeting held.

According to Oti, a fracas broke out between the factions loyal to Moshood Salvador, a factional state chairman of the party, and Kehinde Fasasi, Eti-Osa LGA chairman.

Adeniyi was reportedly shot on the leg in the process, while two other persons sustained injuries.

Oti said he was taken to First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, where he gave up the ghost.

“What supposed to be a peaceful political meeting of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) members, in Lagos state, regrettably ended in unnecessary bloodletting,” the statement read.

“The incident took place on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at about 1800hrs, during Lagos state PDP visitation meeting at Igbosuku village, Eti-Osa LGA, attended by Lagos state and local government PDP chairmen.

“However, towards the end of the meeting, fracas broke out between contending factions of the party; one faction for the state chairman, Hon. Moshood Adegoke Salvador and the other for the Eti-Osa LG chapter chairman, Engr Kehinde Fasasi.

“In the melee, one Hon. Borishade Adeniyi, the Apapa LG PDP chapter chairman, recognised also as the Doyen of PDP LG chapter chairmen in Lagos state, was allegedly shot and injured on the leg.

“He was rushed to First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, Lagos, where he was treated but eventually died. Corpse of the deceased is deposited in the hospital mortuary. Two other persons allegedly injured during the clash, are also receiving treatment in a hospital in Ajah.”

Meanwhile, Imohimi Edgal, the state police commissioner, has ordered the arrest of those indicted in the incident.

Edgal expressed concern over the alleged frequent use of firearms by PDP members in the state. He called on all political parties in Lagos to disarm their members with unauthorised arms.

The statement continued: “Pursuant to the directive, five (5) of the principal suspects were arrested; viz: Engr Kehinde Fasasi, chapter chairman, Eti-Osa LG, Hon. Rotimi Kujore, PDP chapter chairman, Lagos Island LG, Alhaji Fatai Adele, PDP chapter chairman, Mushin LG, Ismail Abiola, PDP chapter chairman, Amuwo Odofin LG and Dr. Amos Alabi Fawole, PDP chapter chairman, Surulere LG.

The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday warned members of some unlawful secret societies including Aiye, Eiye, Black Axe, Buccaneers, etc planning to converge in several undisclosed locations within their domain on Saturday, July 7 to shelve their plan or risk arrest and the full weight of the law.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal in a statement, said the Command had received credible intelligence that some members of cult groups were going about town serving notices to rival cult gangs on their planned meeting on the said day.

Edgal, warned that any such gathering by members of the unlawful society would be viewed as an unlawful assembly with the intent to commit felony, adding that those who go ahead would be visited with the full weight of the law.

“The authorities of the Lagos State Police Command, have received credible intelligence that members of some unlawful societies such as the Aiye, Eiye, Black Axe, Buccaneers, etc, are going round town serving notices to rival cult gangs in the neighbourhood that they would be converging on Saturday 7/7/ 2018 at yet to be disclosed locations within their domains.

“According to available information, the 7th day of the 7th month is sacred to these outlaws. It is also a day they settle scores with rival cult groups and a day of outright brigandage and anomie,” the CP said.

He reiterated that no cult group would be allowed to compromise the peace daily nurtured by men and women of goodwill in the State and maintained by the Police.

He, therefore, urged members of the public not to hesitate to blow the whistle on these brigands anywhere they are found.

In the same vein, the CP urged parents to warn their children who are members of these nefarious associations not only to renounce cultism, but denounce it in all its ramifications.

The Nigeria Police, Lagos State Command, says its men have arrested two notorious kidnappers, Igwe Sunday, age 28 years and Chukwuemeka Bright, 21 years at about 9:43pm, at Elemoro, Ajah Lagos state, while escaping with their victim, one Mrs Mildred Mbajiorgu.

A statement by SP Chike Oti, Police Public Relations Officer
Lagos State Command, said that the tight security network emplaced by the State Commissioner of Police, CP. Edgal Imohimi, did the magic as the Divisional Police Officer, Elemoro tapped into it to get the suspects arrested.

According to the DPO, SP Mohammed Shehu Limawa, he received a distress call from a lady who told him that she heard the voice of a woman crying for help in a dark blue Gulf 3 car with registration number KRD 845 EC.

The statement said the DPO quickly alerted one of the Anti crime patrol teams along the route taken by the kidnappers and instructed the policemen to slow down traffic to about 20km per hour.

The hoodlums ran into the gridlock and were arrested by the policemen who were in the waiting for them. The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital to treat the injury inflicted on her forehead by the dare devils using the butt of a locally made pistol.

The suspects together with the locally made pistol recovered from them have been handed over to the operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation.

The Lagos State Police Command has warned operators of night clubs, beaches, hotels, bars, lounges, among others in the State to henceforth put internal security measures in place to discourage drug abuse, drug peddling and other criminal activities in their establishments in the overall best interest of their businesses and security of the State.

Speaking at the weekend during a meeting with stakeholders in the hospitality industry at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal said intelligence report indicated that there was increase in drug abuse among youths and minors, and that such was dangerous to efforts of the State Government to promote the night economy of the State.

He said through the efforts of the State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, there had been many initiatives and programmes geared toward ensuring a 24-hour economy for the State, and that despite the successes recorded in recent time, there were grey areas which must be jointly tackled by both police and operators in line with his principle of community policing and security partnership.

He said: “One of such areas is the issue of drug peddling, drug use and abuse. Intelligence report at my disposal reveals that there is increased drug peddling, drug abuse in most of our night clubs, lounges, beaches and so on across the State. Young men and women freely use narcotic substances at times in the seating areas, at times more hidden in the toilet areas of our clubs, lounges, hotels to the knowledge of the operators but they are doing nothing about it. This is wrong.

“The scourge of drugs and its attendant effect not only health wise on the young population but also that sheer fact that there is a very clear correlation between drug and crime is something that should make every responsible Lagosian worried. The ease with which our youths are getting access to drugs at clubs, lounges, beaches and so on is worrisome and our meeting here today is to send a very strong signal to operators that it is not going to be business as usual.”

The CP said it had also been observed that some hotels in the State now give rooms to minors and also sell alcoholic drinks to them, while under-aged girls were also being allowed to use such establishments for prostitution, saying that such was very criminal and capable of leading to crimes.

“In addition, we also have the issue of criminals hibernating and having save haven in all our beaches, hotels, clubs, lounges these days. The last intelligence report I received indicates that young men now move around these establishments armed. This is very dangerous for the security of the State. We have it on good authority that some of these establishments are used as meeting points to plan crimes before they execute,” Edgal said.

He said in as much as the police have the capacity to arrest any operator found aiding such, but that he was engaging the stakeholders in line with the principle of community policing and security partnership to tackle the menace frontally, while any operator found culpable would henceforth be arrested, shamed and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Going forward, the CP said it was compulsory for operators to now install basic security gadgets such as CCTV cameras and metal box detectors, among others to cover their establishments.

The CP also set up a 10-man Committee headed by the Managing Director of Farm City Lounge in Lekki, Mr Lanre Carew to come up with a comprehensive blueprint on how to strengthen security in the hospitality industry, especially how to put a stop to drug peddling and use as well as armed bandits gaining access to the establishments to plan crimes.

The Committee, whose members are drawn from across the State, has two weeks to submit its report.

Less than 24 hours after the abducted secretary of Isheri North Landlord Association was released by his abductors, two members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and five farm workers of Eliasa Farm have also been reported kidnapped in Igbodu area of Epe, Lagos State.

The gunmen, numbering about 15, according to sources, dressed in military camouflage, stormed the farm situated along Ishiwo road around 7a.m. and abducted the OPC members, who work as security guards and the farm workers.

Investigation revealed that the two OPC members were employed by the farm owner to provide security at the farm when kidnapping in the community was on the increase in the area.

After the morning abduction, the victims were reportedly taken through the forest into a waiting boat at the riverside.

“The sound of strange voices woke me up early this morning,” said Isaac Ayuba, a farm worker who was lucky to escape. “Before I knew what was going on, I saw a man ordering me to open the door to the room where I slept. I noticed there were other men in the premises. I counted six of them and they were all armed. They were ordering my colleagues to open their doors.

“One of the other men fired his weapon and the whole place was in commotion. Even the armed man standing at my door was confused. So I used the door to push him aside and ran towards the fence. He shot at me as I did but missed. That was how I escaped,” he said.

Isaac and a farm manager called the police who visited the facility and found no one. All the other workers had been kidnapped. “Marcus, James, Modiu, Alfred and three other farms workers are missing,” Isaac added.

A source in the area, who spoke on phone, said two weeks ago, the same gunmen invaded the community and abducted six farmers and one customer who came to buy farm produce.

The kidnappers also stormed the community on Friday, January 27, and abducted a 24-year-old Olabiyi Ifeoluwa, a graduate of Nutrients and Biotechnology from Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, Oyo State and three other farm workers identified simply as Busuyi, Kposu, a Togolese national and John.

The four kidnapped victims were workers of Tanda Farm. Thereafter the abductors contacted the owner. It was gathered that N2 million ransom and two cartons of red label gin were eventually paid as ransom for their release.

The negotiator, Ayodeji Akinyemi, who is Ifeoluwa’s fiancé, was said to have dropped the ransom at a designated point, as directed by the abductors. He was said to have also been instructed on phone, the direction he would lead the released workers through in the forest after their release.

Akinyemi said the kidnappers also had a room where kidnapped babies are kept, as well as first aid box for treatment of injured victims. He also revealed that one of the victims, identified simply as John, who attempted to escape, was shot in the arm.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the incident, said the Lagos State Police command has commenced investigation following the report and we are working assiduously to rescue them.”
