The development comes three days to the governorship election.

The ruling was based on alleged falsification of age in the documents Danladi presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Danladi, alongside his supporters, will today in his Bachama ward, Karim Lamido Local Government Area, announce his move.

“Yes as I am talking to you now, we are on our way to my local government where I will this Tuesday defect to APC, from ward level to local before state,” the former acting governor told PREMIUM TIMES in a telephone interview.

His exit came barely one month after the former state acting governor, Garba Umar, defected to APC.

Messrs. Umar and Danladi hail from the same local government and constituency.

Danladi, who was recently removed from the Senate as lawmaker representing Taraba North, following a Supreme Court verdict , was said to be at loggerhead with Governor Darius Ishaku.

He has, however, denied this, insisting that “I’m not at loggerhead with anyone, but politics is all about interest, and this is where my people want me to go and bring change in the political landscape of our dear state.”

For now, his exit is seen as a blow to the fortunes of the PDP in Karim Lamido, and Taraba even as a PDP leader says the action won’t change anything for the APC in the state.

“No, we are not rattled at all, let him go, PDP wishes him luck,” David Dogo a PDP chieftain in the state said.

Danladi, a grassroot politician, started out as a counsellor, then chairman and finally deputy governor of the state during the late Governor Danbaba Suntai administration.

Though he was later impeached, he won his case at the Supreme Court and was reinstated as deputy governor.

He eventually became governor in an acting capacity and then emerged the PDP flag bearer in the controversial Wadata Plaza primary election for the seat of the senator to represent Taraba state, Northern Senatorial District, until a Supreme Court judgment ruled in favour of Shu’aibu Isa Lau.

Following the Monday attack there was massive movement of people from Donga Local Government, which is one of the areas in the state where run-off election was billed to hold next Saturday.

Residents said the assailants first attacked and burnt Ayiase village in Takum Local Government before heading for Tse-Gbaun and Gaza villages in Donga.

One eyewitness said that the gunmen killed one Msugh Gaza and three of his sons in Gaza Village, while the three other victims were killed in Tse-Gbaun and Ayiase villages.

The eyewitness said, “The attack happened in the early hours of today (Monday), and the area is not safe as I talk to you, and as such we cannot search for the other missing persons. But we have, so far, recovered seven dead bodies.”

The Police spokesman in the state, Joseph Kwaji, said efforts to reach the DPO of Donga for details of the attacks were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was switched off.

However, an aide of the acting Governor of the state, Sani Danladi, said his boss had directed that military personnel be deployed in the area to maintain peace and order.

Danladi also ordered the affected office holders to immediately handover all government property in their possession.

The acting governor took the decision on Friday night shortly after he arrived in Jalingo from Abuja in company with top politicians from the state including former governor, Jolly Nyame.

Others who accompanied him were Emmanuel Njiuwa, and Idris Waziri, Joel Ikenya, Emmaunel Bwacha, Jumai Alhassan, the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Victor Balla, and former minister, Dairius Ishaku, among others.

Addressing the people of the state at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House, Danladi said he does not wish to be addressed as acting governor of Taraba State.

According to him, it is impossible for him to serve in that capacity while his principal, Governor Danbaba Suntai, is around.

However, Danladi said he is quite aware of what happened to him but noted that he has forgiven everybody, no matter the role they played in the impeachment saga.

The deputy governor spoke glowingly about the Supreme Court which reinstated him, and commended the body for the fairness and impartiality they exhibited in his appeal.
