The special adviser to the Speaker of the House of Representatives on media, Malam Imam Imam on Monday denied news reports that the Speaker, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal has defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to news reports that the Speaker had defected to APC during a meeting with members of the party in Sokoto, Imam in a statement said the Tambuwal had not defected but only attended the meeting which also had in attendance, the Governor Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, in the interest of Sokoto State.

He described the meeting as a ‘political family meeting.’

In the statement, Malam Imam noted that Tambuwal accepted to honour an invitation to the meeting after he was snubbed by the PDP’s reconciliation committee which visited Sokoto on Monday.

“The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, led other members of the party on a reconciliation meeting in Sokoto but the Speaker of the House of Representatives and a member of the NEC of the PDP, Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR, was not invited to the meeting,” he said

“Rt. Hon Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was later invited by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, to attend the meeting of their political family to discuss the political future of Sokoto State.

“The Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, duly obliged and attended the meeting,” Imam said.

Imam, however, said that the Speaker was still consulting on his political future. He said, “consultations on the Speaker’s political future continues and the outcome will be made public at the appropriate time.”
