The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has pledged to implement competitive industry reforms in the farming, fishing, and cattle sectors.

When elected president, he also pledged to make agriculture the cornerstone of Nigeria’s new economy.

At a meeting with agro-allied sector stakeholders on Monday in Minna, Niger State, where he received unusual support from the farming and fishing communities, Tinubu remarked this.

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Maize Association of Nigeria, Miyetti Allah Keutal Hore, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, and Federation of Agricultural Commodity Association of Nigeria were among the organizations who endorsed the APC candidate at the town hall gathering.

At the event, Tinubu named him to lead a committee to create a plan that will help position the agricultural sector so that it can take up its rightful place in the spotlight. Tinubu adopted the presentation made by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu.

In his speech titled “Path to Agricultural Self-Sufficiency,” the APC presidential flagbearer emphasized the crucial role agriculture played in the nation’s economy before the discovery of oil.

The APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima; the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Simon Lalong; the event’s host, Governor Abdullahi Sani-Bello, Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru, Niger State APC Governorship Candidate, Hon. Umar Bago and other party chieftains were among those in attendance.

Tinubu acknowledged that all the states in the nation could provide one of two things to ensure that the country completely produces what it eats when addressing the farmers’ organizations in his speech.

“Northern Nigeria has significant agricultural potential because of its plentiful arable land,” he declared. If the industry is to make any real progress, it must continue to lead the way.

“Whether in horticulture or crop production, fisheries, poultry, or animal husbandry, every state and the FCT have some level of competitive edge in agriculture. If these resources are properly utilized, they will not only meet our local requirements but also quickly transform Nigeria into a global power.

“If Nigeria fully utilizes its agricultural potential, our exports will increase to the point where we can feed much of sub-Saharan Africa, allowing us to balance our economy better while promoting social harmony, larger consumer bases, and political goodwill between us and other countries in the region and on.

Tinubu would be good for Nigerian farmers, according to APC Chairman Adamu, who is himself a farmer, because he is aware of their situation.

In keeping with this, Governor Lalong stated that Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, is the son of a market woman who traveled between rural and urban communities to conduct business. Lalong also stated that Tinubu, should he be elected president of Nigeria, will link the rural and urban economies to benefit farmers.
