Men of Oyo State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) have seized a truck loaded with 15,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) from vandals in Ibadan.

The vandalism of pipeline took place at Pere/Aroje area of Ogo Oluwa Local Government area of the state around 2:00 am on March 11, 2014.

The State Commandant of NSCDC, Shem Obafaiye, said the vandals would have been caught at the point of vandalizing the products, if not for the connivance of some herdsmen who worked hand in hand with them.

“The interception of this truck is as a result of our intelligence gathering method. We got information that some vandals were about to take off after loading the truck with PMS. When they saw us, they disappeared into the cattle ranch”.

“It is like they are using these Fulani men. In the night, the Fulani men take their cattle about. This is very unusual. The purpose is to go round and see if our men are there monitoring the pipelines. When they see our men, they would tell the vandals to run away”.

The NSCDC boss stated that “this is 15,000 litres of PMS. They have done the vandalism. We will take the truck to the NNPC. Vandalism is a daily thing. We have been apprehending them in Ogo Oluwa, Ogbomoso, Ibadan and other surrounding towns”.

He frowned at  the uncooperative attitude of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, for not informing the command before they pump fuel to enable it perform its statutory role of curbing the activities of vandals

0bafaiye said “we normally tell the NNPC that whenever they want to pump fuel they should tell us so that we can monitor the pipelines. But as at this morning, I was told they had pumped fuel without informing us. That is not good enough because we are the ones monitoring the pipelines”.
