Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has lashed out at his counterparts in Sokoto and Kano States, Aliyu Wamakko and Rabiu Kwankwaso respectively for defecting from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying that their defection with others was not only a betrayal of trust but deceitful and selfish.
Apart from Kwakwanso and Wamakko, others said to have been tongue- lashed by Lamido for for abandoning the PDD included the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari and the former Minister of the Abuja Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai.
Lamido spoke while addressing thousands of party supporters during the flag off of the Jigawa North Central zonal rally of the PDP at Gwaram town.
According to the governor the defection of the former party men showed that they were not politically mature as they merely left the PDP to enable them occupy elective positions using the former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari as the vehicle.
Lamido said that the defected politicians who were either elected or appointed into different positions were always eager to describe Buhari, who is the presidential candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, as thrust wordy but were not displaying the same traits like Buhari.
He said that the PDP would defeat the APC in this year’s general elections from federal to state levels, as people have benefited from the dividends of democracy and projects executed by the PDP led administration in the country; thus continuing to maintain it position as the largest party in Africa.
“Some politicians used General Muhammadu Buhari as a weapon to win election simply because people describe him (Buhari) as trustworthy but the question is, those using his name; are they trustworthy as such Buhari? People should be mindful of such politicians.
“This has clearly indicated that they are in politics for elective positions and appointments.
The PDP has done everything good for these people but to our greatest surprise they abandoned the party that gave birth and nursed them…, simply because these people are not satisfied with the style of their governance.
He further said that those who decamped from the PDP should blame themselves not the party because their people have lost confidence in them and the party has no alternative then to replace them with qualitative and trusted leaders.
He stressed that the PDP had not been harmed as a result of the departure of the former members pointing out that other people had equally joined the party.
Governor Lamido along with other six PDP governors (G7) had fought against the leadership of PDP under Bamanga Tukur accusing him of incompetence which led the formation of a breakaway NewPDP.
Five of the governors including Wamakko and Kwakwanso later quit the party and joined the APC while Lamido and his Niger State counterpart, Dr Muazu Babngida Aliyu remained in the PDP.
However, the failure of Lamido and Babangida to join their colleagues in the APC had generated controversies and enmity among them as the five governors accused them of sycophancy and betrayal by remaining in the party.
The G7 governors at that time included Governor Sule Lamido, Babangida Muazu Aliyu , Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako of Sokoto, Governor Abdulfatah of Kwara, Governor Rotimi Amechi of Rivers and Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa States.
