A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Olasupo Shasore, has said that the worst candidate of the APC is better than the best candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Shasore, who spoke in Lagos, on Thursday, said there was no basis for comparison between the APC and the PDP, adding that the APC had added value to the lives of Nigerians more than the PDP.
“The worst APC candidate is better than the best PDP candidate. Lagosians don’t want the development they are witnessing to stop. They will vote for a continuation of APC government in Lagos State because they can see what the Federal Government is doing at the federal level.
“Lagos is particularly lucky with the quality of aspirants vying for the governorship seat on the platform of the APC. The party is going to come out with a credible and acceptable candidate.”
The former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General in Lagos State said ethnicity and religion should not be the determining factors in an election.
He also urged delegates of the party to consider competence, experience and vision as critical criteria in electing the party’s candidates for various elections.
Shasore noted that 16 years of democracy in the country had seen the emergence of a new Lagos, built by a purposeful and visionary leadership.
“I’ve always seen Lagos, personally, as one united constituency; the enormity of developmental challenges and the shared amount of resources to deliver social goods to the people of the state don’t afford us the luxury of cancelling out people just because of the accident of where they were born, where they come from, or the religion they practice.
“In our party, we feel that true democracy is not a gift to the Nigerian people, it is a right that they deserve to be able to exercise freely,” he said.
