{"id":123197,"date":"2020-07-14T16:10:21","date_gmt":"2020-07-14T15:10:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmail-ng.com\/?p=123197"},"modified":"2020-07-14T16:10:21","modified_gmt":"2020-07-14T15:10:21","slug":"fg-kicks-off-774000-jobs-programme-suspended-by-nassembly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmail-ng.com\/fg-kicks-off-774000-jobs-programme-suspended-by-nassembly\/","title":{"rendered":"FG kicks off 774,000 jobs programme suspended by n\u2019assembly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has kicked off the special public works programme suspended by the national assembly.<\/p>\n<p>The government announced the take-off via its official Twitter handle on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The programme, which is coordinated by the ministry of labour and employment, was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari as a part of the fiscal stimulus measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 1,000 Nigerians from each of the 774 local government areas will be engaged in the programme coordinated by constituted state committees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe State Selection Committees have been inaugurated and have commenced work,\u201d the federal government said via its Twitter handle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmail-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Screenshot-2020-07-14-at-4.02.24-PM-300x153.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"153\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-123198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmail-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Screenshot-2020-07-14-at-4.02.24-PM-300x153.png 300w, https:\/\/newmail-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Screenshot-2020-07-14-at-4.02.24-PM-511x263.png 511w, https:\/\/newmail-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Screenshot-2020-07-14-at-4.02.24-PM.png 517w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>President Buhari had directed Festus Keyamo, minister of state for labour and employment, to commence the programme amid an ongoing misunderstanding with the national assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Keyamo had come in collision with the national assembly over the legislature\u2019s insistence on dictating the process of the programme.<\/p>\n<p>The national assembly suspended the programme in the heat of its face-off with the minister, demanding further explanations.<\/p>\n<p>At a meeting in June, members of the committee were near fisticuffs with the minister who was walked out of the event.<\/p>\n<p>But Keyamo accused the committee of seeking to hijack the programme and to appropriate some job slots to themselves.<\/p>\n<p>He also accused the national assembly committee of challenging the president by its action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has kicked off the special public works programme suspended by the national assembly.
