Suspected armed men has allegedly broke into the Ogun Assembly complex in Oke Mosan, few metres away from the Governor Dapo Abiodun’s office and carted away the House’s mace, the legislators’ symbol of authority.<\/p>\n
The unknown burglars who accessed the Assembly complex through the ceiling in a pre – dawn operations and evaded detection despite security presence, were said to have also broke into the office of the Speaker, Kunle Oluomo, in search of yet – to – be ascertained items.<\/p>\n
It was learnt that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, visited the complex to assess the situation but newsmen eager to find out what happened, were sent back by security Operatives.<\/p>\n
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told our reporter that Ajogun visited the legislative complex following complaints that the Assembly mace was stolen by people yet to be identified people.<\/p>\n
Abimbola, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said the Police has recovered a part of the mace – the Coat of arm portion of it, while the larger portion of it is still palpably missing.<\/p>\n
Although, no arrest has been made.<\/p>\n
Abimbola said:”There is an unfortunate incident today in the assembly complex. The hoodlums broke into the assembly through the ceiling, and removed the official mace of the house. That is why the Commissioner of Police has to go there for on the spot assessment.<\/p>\n
“Now, the head of the mace has been recovered and investigation has commenced. The CP has directed the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to take over the investigation.<\/p>\n
“We are getting some clues on the perpetrators of the incident and very soon we will get everyone that partook in that dastardly act.<\/p>\n
“No arrest has been arrested but the investigation has commenced. You know the mace has a tail end that has the coat of arms symbol, that one has been recovered. We are looking at every possible clue.”<\/p>\n
But the Ogun Assembly Committee Chairman on Information, Yusuff Adejojo, denied that the House’s mace was stolen or the Assembly complex burgled, saying nothing like that happened.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
