The All Progressives Congress has denied the allegation that it was plotting to rig the next general elections in conjunction with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)leadership. <\/p>\n
APC national publicity secretary, Lai Mohammed, said the allegation was made in order to disparage the personality the INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, so as to pave way for his removal.<\/p>\n
The spokesman for President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode had alleged that Prof. Jega had a meeting with some leaders of APC in Dubai with the aim coming up with \u201ca grand conspiratorial alliance with the APC to fraudulently secure victory in the forthcoming elections\u201d.<\/p>\n
Lai Mohammed said Fani-Kayode lied about the issue. He said no APC leader or persons connected to the party had meeting with the INEC chair in Dubai.<\/p>\n
\u200b\u201d\u200bI have made findings. And I can tell you that not only that no leader of APC had been to Dubai in the last two weeks, but there has not been any meeting between APC or any of our representatives with INEC or any of its staff including Jega anywhere in the world\u200b,\u200b\u201d\u200b he said Thursday.\u200b<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, Fani-Kayode could not present any evidence or proof. And so, the allegation is baseless and unverifiable. He is hired to distract us with unverifiable allegations. But, we know him very well. We are not distracted. We remain focused on our campaign to salvage Nigeria.<\/p>\n
\u201cOrdinarily, no one should belabour himself or herself trying to reply Fani-Kayode. Doing that causes distraction. Fani-Kayode is a rabble-rouser, hired to heat up the polity with baseless talks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, they know what they are doing. Gripped by fear of defeat in a free and fair election, they are only creating grounds to attack Jega and ultimately force him to proceed on terminal leave before the elections, thereby replacing him with another man,\u201d Mohammed said.<\/p>\n
\u200bMohammed said the PDP campaign spokesperson, Fani-Kayode, and some other leaders of the party, are merely supporting President Jonathan to save them from their graft charges.\u200b<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease quote me,\u201d Mohammed said, \u201cthey are supporting Jonathan because they are assured of protection by the President, evade justice\u200b,\u200b\u201d\u200b Mohammed \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n
