The Nigerian Army said Thursday night that it has released 12 senior officers to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for probe.<\/p>\n

The EFCC is investigating their role in the $2.1billion arms deals and those found guilty of fraud by the EFCC will be tried by a Military Court Martial.<\/p>\n

A statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, which did not release the names of the affected officers, said: \u201cThe Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public that 12 Army officers have been sent to the EFCC for investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese comprise three serving Major-Generals and one retired, three Brigadier-Generals, four colonels, and one Lieutenant Colonel.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever it should be noted that at the end of the commission\u2019s investigations, those found culpable will be tried by a Military Court Martial.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Muhammadu Buhari had recently directed the EFCC to investigate top military officers including retired Service Chiefs for their involvement in arms procurement in the last administration.<\/p>\n

Already, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff and Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh and Air Marshal Amosu respectively are being interrogated by the Anti-Graft Agency.<\/p>\n
