The Peoples\u2019 Democratic Party (PDP) will commence the conduct of primary elections for the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti on March 19.<\/p>\n
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, who disclosed this on Monday in Abuja while addressing newsmen, said that the wish of the party was for the 14 aspirants cleared by the party to contest the primaries to come up with a unanimous consensus candidate.<\/p>\n
“It is the desire of the PDP that we have a consensus candidate in Ekiti state with a proviso that it must be unanimous. If it does not work out, if there is any problem whatsoever, then on Wednesday we will commence the conduct of the primaries in Ekiti state.<\/p>\n
“By chance if one or two persons disagree, we must respect the party`s constitution by concluding the exercise.\u00a0 We have sold forms and we will go for the elections accordingly,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Metuh pledged that the leadership of the party would ensure that the electorate in Ekiti participate actively in electing their next governor.<\/p>\n
“The chairman of the party made it clear that he wants peace and unity, but above all he does not want to deprive anybody of his constitutional right,\u2019\u2019 Metuh said.<\/p>\n
The 14 aspirants cleared by the party to contest the primaries are, Ayo Fayose, former governor of the state, retired Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade, former Minister of Police Affairs and Adeyanju Sunday.<\/p>\n
Others are Erelu Ogundipe, Abiodun Aluko, Adewale Aribisala, Oladeji Omoyeni, Olubenga Aluko and Oluropo Ogunbolude as well as Dr Omolara Adubiaro, Ajayi Ayodeji, Peter Obafemi, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye and Oluwadare Bajide.<\/p>\n
