A mild drama ensued in the Senate on Wednesday when Oluremi, the wife of a former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, sat on the chair meant for the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.

Tinubu sat on Ekweremadu’s chair when she was called upon by the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, while discussing with Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, to second a motion on the approval of the Lagos State Development Policy Operation Loan.

This action earned Tinubu the rebuke of the Peoples Democratic Party senators in the Red Chamber when she stood up to speak while standing in the Deputy Senate President’s corner.

Tinubu bowed to the pressure of the PDP senators and left for her seat to second the motion.

However, she came back to the seat of Ekweremadu, who was not present at the plenary, after she had seconded the motion.

After a brief debate on the report of the Adhoc Committee on Local and Foreign Debts on a $200 million loan sought by the Lagos State Government from the World Bank, the Senate gave its approval.

Earlier, Danjuma Goje, a senator from Gombe State, had urged the Senate to ensure that it did not approve loans that would leave huge debt burdens for future governments, but added that he was in support of the approval of the loan for the Lagos State Government.
