‘La La Land’ romantic movie sweeps awards at BAFTA 2017

“La La Land’’ an American romantic musical comedy movie, has emerge top winner at the 2017 edition of the EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the movie clinched six awards at the event, which held on Sunday night at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

La La Land was named the overall Best Film.

It also produced Justin Hurwitz as the winner of the Original Music award, Linus Sandgren for the Best Cinematography and Mary Zophres as the Best Costume Design.

Damien Chazelle, the Director of the romantic movie, got the Best Director award, while Emma Stone went home with Best Leading Actress trophy for the movie.

La La Land, which got 11 nominations, the highest, for the annual motion picture fiesta, is a 2016 American romantic musical film comedy written and directed by Damien Chazelle.

It featured top stars John Legend, Emma Stone, Rosemarie DeWitt and Ryan Gosling.

The plot follows a musician and an aspiring actress who meets and falls in love in Los Angeles.

La La Land had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival (VFF) on August 31, 2016, and was released in the United States on December 9, 2016 by Summit Entertainment.

The film received widespread acclaim from critics and has grossed 85 million dollars worldwide in less than six months of its release.

It was chosen by the America Film Institute as one of the top ten films of 2016, and won the Critics’ Choice Move Award for Best Picture.

NAN reports that the BAFTA is an independent charity that supports, develops and promotes the art forms of the moving image by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public.

The BAFTA 2017, which is the 70th edition of the annual award, was hosted by veteran English presenter Stephen Fry.
