The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it arrested a 68-year old man for allegedly attempting to smuggle substance suspected to be cocaine through the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The airport Commander of the agency, Olutekunbi Davies, told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday that the suspect was arrested on Dec. 31, 2013 while attempting to board an Air France flight to Dublin, through Paris.
He alleged that the suspect ingested 115 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.493 kilogrammes. Davies said the suspect hailed from Okene in Kogi.
The commander appealed to the Federal Government to complete the remodelling of the airport and provide an office for the agency to do its work.
The suspect, however, told newsmen that he got into the business to raise money for surgery to remove bullets from his legs.
He said bullets were lodged into his legs during an armed robbery attack in 2009.
He said he was married with children and urged people planning to smuggle narcotic substance to desist from it.
